Winter Build Off 2022 - Star-Crossed-Caster

I took @Matt Liebenau 's last post as a hint that I should apply the binding sooner rather than later. It seems to be working fine.

I'll have a lot of scraping to keep me busy tomorrow.

I’m glad it’s working out. I didn’t mean to imply anything though. I was hoping you had a better way. I’d always sprayed bursts starting with the lighter color in the center and working out. I saw a video with Brad Angove where he did a burst starting from the outside in and have since discovered that’s a thing. Haven’t tried a burst that way yet but I was hoping binding last was something similar.

I posted in the WBO thread that this build won't be done in time because I want to get the finish right before I assemble. It was the difficulties with the binding that brought me to that conclusion. On the front, the binding cracked at the tightest part of the lower horn. I didn't know that it could do that. I cut out the section and replaced it.

I started on binding the sound holes too.

I will have the binding finished and scraped over the weekend. There will be enough finish touch ups and gloss coats required to push final assembly past the deadline.

I can't stand not getting this the way I want by Sunday, but I have decided to get it giggity. I'll just choose my camera angles carefully.

I called the finish done-ish enough and attached the neck. I kept going and installed the wiring harness using the same surgical tubing trick as on my Toby-or-not-Toby build

The bridge is mounted without the spacer that I made because the screws would have less bite into the core block. I can get longer screws and put the spacer in, if required.

I'll solder the jack and pick-ups tomorrow, string it Friday and set it up Saturday. Sunday is reserved for playing it and watching the last minute antics.
