I had the table saw out for part of a house project, so I thought I would run a piece of that ash through it to clean up one side. It's a 15A, 10" Dewalt with decent carbide-tipped blade.... and did not like that wood. I know it's not the best saw and the sharpest blade, but it took 'forever' to get through certain sections. Stupid dense wood. Why did I choose this wood again?

I had similar difficulty cutting through dense hardwoods with carbide finishing blades so I purchased one of these ripping blades:

It's a pretty inexpensive blade but was a real revelation cutting through almost 3 inches of wenge. I have since tried hard maple and walnut and it cuts through those with ease too.

Awesome, thanks! I was eyeing that one on the HD website right after my last post, but I didnt know how well it would work. The blade I have now is listed for finishing and ripping, so I didnt want to get another one that didnt perform.

I bought a GV neck from that same seller and am doing a build around it as well! Had the same issue with the tuner holes.

Awesome! It was pretty easy once it was set up. My next hurdle is the string retainer and what to use to drill the holes - you dont want to mess up the car on fiber weave with a standard twist drill bit.

Are you doing a custom build or getting a NOS Peavey body?

Custom body. Leaning towards a Jaguar shape but haven't decided yet.

I feel like this project is going nowhere fast...

I either procrastinated or didnt have time for the past few months, I'm just now getting around to some of the details.

Since it's a balmy 12°F tonight, and my workspace is an unheated garage, I removed the blades from the 4" jointer/planer (and tore up my thumb up in the process) to find one is chipped pretty badly. No wonder it was cutting like crap. It's an oddball Craftsman model, and the blades aren't commonly available. I found some online for $77, but that's 3x what I paid for the tool to begin with. I'll try to resharpen them myself first...

I'm also just getting around to making a template for the Gotoh BB-04W battery box. Since I'll use a BB-04 on other projects, I decided to make the template a 2-in-1 and save myself some $ not buying a premade one. The 1/4" acrylic was fairly cheap and I made a full size drawing in the free Front Panel Express (not affiliated) CAD program.

Not technically sawdust, but I'll take it.

Is there a prize for using a slide rule in your build? This is how they're used, right? Good enough...

Standard drill bit for metal works fine with cf. It just dulls very fast.

Me too, we didn't have to use them. I had a wicked Texas Instruments solar scientific calculator that would do anything we had to do, but he made us all learn to use them, and then would make us use it on a test. I stand by my first analysis. Psycho.

I didn’t have to use a slide rule but I’ve occasionally had a venier caliper give me the Jibblies.

I apparently tend to agree with that. I have a digital caliper but I usually pick up one of my dial calipers.

I inherited my grandfather's old slide rule. I always meant to make a glass-topped box for it, marked "in case of power failure break glass" and mount it on the side of my PC at work.
