The factory 4-string versions of these bridges have 4 across.

.... and the 5-string version has three. What this tells me is that they found three screws to be sufficient, but they decided that on the 4-string version, leaving one of the four channels screwless would not look good. On the 5-string version, they didn't have that problem.

But your 5 screw bridge will be fine.

That low spot on the neck pocket (operator error with the angle grinder) was taped off with Kapton tape and filled with epoxy.

Once it was cured, the tape was removed and the epoxy was leveled.

The body was sanded then gone over with a brass brush to take out some of the softer grain lines. I didnt brush the sides, just the top and back

That spot that was filled with epoxy was sanded flush.

Another reason for the purists to cringe. Here it is! I used VHT epoxy paint (which is supposed to be used for OTV rollbars) in satin black. It needs to dry/cure a few days, but I should be able to get it wrapped up in time.

The neck needs a string tree. I could buy one, but that's kinda boring.

I picked up a piece of 1/4" rod in 316 Stainless. I ground one side flat on my belt sander, made a flat on the other side with a file and drilled for #4 hardware.

The surplus neck didnt have holes for the string tree. Time to drill! I also drilled out the somewhat pre-drilled tuner screw holes to 1/16".

I bought some stainless threaded inserts for the back of the headstock. They worked well.

Heres the completed string tree. I used a hand file to finish off the flats. I'll probably have to make a new one at some point because I took it in too far and the B string might be right on the edge. My plan was to use aluminium standoffs, but I didnt have the right size, so I used a little heatshrink tubing to keep the tree off the headstock while there are no strings on it.

I also realized if I'm not using standoffs, I dont need the flat parts on the bottom.

The nut from the factory was comically high. I used the pencil trick to get the it close to height of the string groove, I'll trim it down once the strings are on it.

Yes! It makes the wood so tangible even on a photo, when I zoom in on it I can smell it.
