Winter Build Off 2023 - Let Your Nerd Flag Fly

Ok I'm gonna try to get an entry together in the next week or two. I'm gonna do an exotic wood(nerdy) '51 Pbass(exotic wood where its unexpected=extra nerdy) I've ordered a rosewood neck blank and I'm thinking maybe Zebrawood for the body. Finishing has been by far the most time eating part of building so I'm hoping an unfinished rosewood neck will help me get it in on time. Gonna try to stay away from Nitro on this one, I'm hoping to get some suggestions on what to user for finish on the body.

I am a shellac nerd for a couple of reasons other than the history.
It’s cheap, sets up quickly, looks great, comes in many colors, the solvents aren’t near as bad as most. Mistakes are easily repaired. So is damage. Touch ups are simple. Button lac is pretty durable. More so than dewaxed for top coats and handled bits.
It’s easy to not like. It’s not super durable. Shows water and alcohol stains. And laying it down takes some time and a touch.

I've somehow just bought a cheapo neck on eBay, it looks like I might be a late entrant again. Money is tight so trying to do this on a tight budget, but I think I have most of what I need in the parts bin, just need to scrounge some wood for the body....

Very cool stuff going on this winter! It's nice to see all these interesting ideas starting to materialize.
Alas, I can't make it this time. We moved in October and the new house was destined to contain my dreamy new shop setup...And your entry is?
But as it turns out, that shop area was wired for not much more than a toaster. Like, it literally is on the same circuit as the toaster in the kitchen. Upgrades were needed and they are actually happening as we speak. There's electricians upgrading the service to the house RIGHT NOW.
But even if that finishes up on time, I still have to basically build the shop itself again, then hit the backlog of stuff I've had to put off since the move.
If I manage to actually make anything by the deadline, it would likely be pretty awful.
So I'm gonna just watch and enjoy this year... and plot for next year!
