This is strange to me because Canada went soooooo far the other way on kitchen power. The electrical code here, which has been like this for at least the past 50 years, is that each counter plug (not box, each individual plug) has to have a dedicated breaker. So my kitchen has 10 breakers on the panel, totalling 200 A. I kid you not. :wacky:

I just need to convince my family that the kitchen should be the shop!

EDIT: oops, forgot about the fridge plug. Make that 11 breakers totalling 215 A.

Yeah, there were a lot of questionable changes made to this house over the years. Not sure which previous owner commissioned some of them, but the entire garage is connected to a single 15a breaker in the kitchen.

Well... it was. Now it's gonna have 200A service to the whole house and a subpanel in the garage to handle a variety of tools and other high draw electrical stuff. Wanted to make sure I could expand over time, if need be.

Sounds very similar to my situation. I just did that at my 100 year old place last August. 200A panel upgrade on the main house, new sub-panel, outlets, switches and lights in the detached garage, new sub-panel at the detached granny flat (studio?).

The old electrical in the garage was a Jimmy-rig (I mean literally... My neighbor confirmed that three owners ago the guy's name was Jimmy and he did the non-compliant work himself) and it was connected by an overhead knob-and-tube line running out the back of my house, from the attic. Jimmy was clearly not an engineer, electrician, mechanic or other tradesman in any trained or professional sense.

Hi gang, I'm back! Got back from Mexico and seem to have brought back some Covid as it knocked el guano out of me for a good week. That's despite having had all 5 vaccines available. :D

First post in this thread has been updated with all of the new entries, and we have more than a few! Some really interesting ideas - you all are serious nerds. :smug:

Anyway, back to the action... :thumbsup:

Dang, hope you're feeling better soon! We made it to Belize and back covid free.

Ha! I hadn't mentioned anything as it's not just all about me. :D

I had a tentative shop arranged, but I heard last week that the owner has been deployed to the East coast for a year, so I won't have consistent access to his shop and therefore I decided not to start something that I won't be able to finish. :p I'm still planning to crush it for the Summer Build Off tho. :smug:
