the weird thing about this was the hipshot detuner was flat black and the other three tuners were gloss black.

@pcake, you may be interested in this. The dude who designs these combo amps is a bass player. He says that he makes sure they can be used for either guitar or bass. His Lunchbox Junior amp is 5lbs. I'm going to try to play through one on Sunday.
