This whole thing is the biggest scam ever perpetrated on the American public. We don't NEED digital TV, but the FCC decided that they NEED the 17 BILLION DOLLARS that the air space would sell for to the various bidders (It actually sold for more) ALSO the TV makers decided that they NEEDED to sell everyone all new TVs with digital tuners and lobbied heavily for this unneeded change.
NOTE - be aware that the cable companies will soon stop carrying the analog channels and your older TV won't work any more unless you rent a digital cable box.
Public safety uses only tiny bits of bandwidth - they don't need the entire 700 MHz band where the UHF TV channels used to reside.
You will not only be in violation if you use your 700 MHz gear, but you will also run the chance of huge interference from much more powerful broadcasters now in your space. Note - for the FCC to catch you doing a one or two night show, someone most complain, but the downside is huge.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth will not work - there is too much analog>digital>packet>unpacket>digital>analog conversion delay in the audio signal - so you can't keep time with the band. This is why there have not been more digital units on the market. Even the newer ones have this problem to some extent.
