Wireless Recommendation?

You wouldn't still happen to be working for a dealer of Shure and Sennheiser products, would you???

Yes...and of line 6, AKG, Audio-Technica, and a bunch of others... :P

i have no reason to be biased aside from my experience in buying and seeing! in fact i don't actually have any specific brand that im preference to, more models of specific brands within a specific price range.

as i said, at the time and what i could afford to pay, the line 6 product IMO was not as good of quality as the sennheiser, as the digital technology had not evolved to a point where i PERSONALLY liked it. since i only had 20ftapprox of line of sight range, where i had 300ft range, on top of a proven product and technology (at the time), and the built construction of my beltpack was better (no connector problems, as i went through that with my shure SLX i had which was my reason for replacing not to mention the companding/compression and the sound, and hated), i decided that the sennheiser was a better purchase.

don't think i didn't do my shopping around, i looked at line 6 for a about a 2 week period before i even looked at sennheiser. i wasn't even going to touch it to be honest, it wasn't until i tried it that i decided it was a better purchase for myself.

my opinion is formed based upon my own listening experience, not that based of recommendations on a forum, which isn't a bad thing, just people put too much emphasis and trust upon a lot of opinions on a forum (not just this one), and every forum has a different group of opinions, so my advice to everyone is to do the listening themselves and let them do the choosing, and try a range of brands. and to others to not shoot an opinion down to the ground because its against a normal opinion of a forum.

i know that since then line 6 products have greatly improved, and i have no problems in recommending them, but for me i choose to let other people make an informed choice (which i guess what a forum is for) rather than a narrow minded view

OK, then why such a hardon against Line6 stuff??? Honestly, I don't see anyone here slamming Shure or Sennheiser - as you claimed earlier - but you sure get your knickers in a knot over the fact that most people really like Line6 wireless products...

It's obvious by the bulk of your posts that you've got some good knowledge to share, but you're hard to take seriously when you try to peddle a line of BS like this:

Most here who have actually checked out wireless products know that it simply isn't true - after all, the market has spoken pretty loudly...

if you actually read it properly, did i not clearly state that at the time when i purchased my wireless unit...maybe i should have clarified and said when i looked about 4 years ago...My bad...again...

my knickers are more in a knot over the fact that the same questions get asked over and over again, and answered with the same answers that that have been answered in other previous posts. (yes i had to re-read that a bunch of times...lol) and its not just the wireless questions, its the mic vs di, the powered speakers, etc...i know that opinions do change as technology evolves, but its like there is a cycle every 2 weeks the same questions get asked...lol (its not that hard to search through 2 pages...lol) now im venting....sorry about that...lol

ANYWAYS...i know it may come across that i hate the line 6 brand, i don't, i have used and i like. but i like the sennheiser unit (still) better than the line 6. and thats where i should leave that...lol

Around 4 years ago the Line 6 G series was still known as the X2 digital wireless. X2 was acquired by Line 6 in 2008 and was rebranded in 2009. Maybe that is causing the confusion. ;)

Yeah, I hear ya regarding the same questions being asked over and over again - when I was still a noob here, I *used* to think the "old salts" were just being cranky when they'd say "Do a search" - now I get it...

that rings a bell...but wasn't the X2 still a line 6 product? or was it completely different brand??

X2 was it's own brand, that was a spinoff of the quite sucessful X-wire... Line6 bought out X2, but near as I can tell, nothing changed - I bought my XDR-95 when it was still X2 Digital Wireless, then the XDS-PLUS I bought later from another TBer was a Line6 product - and there was virtually no difference...

Started out using Shure wireless for my bass over 20 years ago. The antenna on the transmitter finally broke after 20 years of use. Shure sent me out a replacement for free. Very nice of them to do so. Unfortunately, the wife did some house cleaning and I think accidentally threw it away. Decided to simply get another wireless system due to the age of mine. Was going to go with another Shure but got talked into buying a Line 6 X2 XDR 95. Had it for the last 2 years and it did great. My only complaints were the short battery life and the strap/belt clip sucks so I had to buy an aftermarket pouch to hold the transmitter. This past Sunday right as I was beginning to play at church, the transmitter went haywire and acted like it could not find the signal to my receiver. It had never done that before? Anyway, as a result, I had to fake play during service. I fixed the issue after service and got the 2 items sync'd back up but now I don't trust it anymore so after church on Sunday, I went and ordered another Shure wireless system. It too is a digital one. The PGXD 14. First thing I noticed with it, is the strap/belt clip fits great! Next, it takes AA batteries as opposed to 9 volts so it will be cheaper to run and the battery life according to everything is much longer on this system then my last. I know everyone has said go with Line 6 in here but I will stick with Shure!

Got a question about the Line 6 Relay G30. What exactly is the "cable length" setting? Also does one setting give you an increased range or distance from transmitter to receiver? Any other info or experience with this unit is more than welcomed. Thanks.

When using a cable, the signal running through the cable (tone) is affected - the longer the cable, the more it's affected. Having the switch in 15 or 30 ft just simulates that length of a cable. I just leave mine on 0.

Has nothing to do with the range of the unit.

I have used mine for one gig so far, and it worked flawlessly. Using it again tomorrow night.

Thanks for the reply. I just started a new post about this..oops. I just got a G30 today and it works fine here at home. I have practice tomorrow so I'm going to try it out. Hopefully all goes well and I can't try it at a gig next Friday.

gah...why do people even bother to ask about this? read the million an one other posts to find out that everyone is going to recommend line 6...and shoot down every other brand...

This is true of every topic posted on this site, but unfortunately, even when you do a search, you do not always find what you are looking for. There are also new people joining every day who may not know how to find previous threads.

Digital wireless is digital wireless. Sound wise brand won't matter, so it's just which brand of digital wireless is more reliable/better built. I can't tell you which brand that is, because I'm still on a cable but I can tell you if you're going wireless just go digital. There's too many issues with analogue wireless (in no small part to the fact that the frequencies keep getting sold off and using them becomes illegal).

Happy Line 6 G50 user here. Clean, excellent quality signal and very intuitive setup. Just get good replacement cables to use instead of the lousy ones that come with it. I got my replacements from Link Removed and bought my G50 on eBay.
