Wireless Rigs?

I’ve been using an Audio-Technica System 10 ATW-1101 2.4GHz Digital Wireless Bodypack System for over a year and it works great. No dropouts, it’s quiet and fits in my briefcase. A pair of AA alkaline batteries does a usual 4 hour show and the next sound check. I’ve been testing some new rechargeable batteries by a German company called Ansmann, and so far I have noticed no difference from the alkaline batteries I’ve been using.

Nady DW-22, handles low B fabulously. I run stereo pickups so need 2 channels. Fits on my pedal board.

I inherited an old X2 wireless from my brother. It's about ten years old and the only fix it needed was a new cable. I taped the replacement cable to the transmitter so it will be more stable and secure. I run it with rechargeable 9V batteries and it's as reliable as a rock.

I’ve used the same line 6 G30 since they came out. I gigged every week for three years straight without a problem. The battery door is an issue with a quick fix. I use rechargeable batteries and could get two gigs with three 45 sets each before I had to rotate them out. I habitually shut if off during breaks, it’s like a mute button. It’s quite sturdy for plastic but I did manage to break it after it took a hit. Glued it back together and it’s been fine for the past six months. The receiver has a small footprint and lives on my Pedaltrain Nano+. The guitarist ended up buying one and we never had problems. The bassist who replaced me after I quit has one too. He saw me use mine and grabbed one. Again, works flawlessly. One of the best pieces of equipment I own.

I had the Line6 G55 and had a lot of drop outs when I tried it for a couple of shows in Europe. I switched to a Shure GLXD16 and it so much more reliable in my opinion. Never had any problem with drop outs and is pretty much plug and play. Plus it has a phenomenal rechargeable battery. It will last a couple of shows without any recharge and it’s really fast to recharge it fully. And the tuner handles low B perfect. Can’t say good enough things about this unit.

Good timing on this thread. I've been using the G30 for about a year-and-a-half, and it's now getting to the point where I have to find the "sweet spot" when you power-up the transmitter (meaning the "on/off" button needs to be jiggled just right), or else it won't work. I finally had to take it out of my chain on the 4th and use a cord, so I did a search on talkbass to find advice.

Looks like there are a couple of other unhappy G30 users here, too (and a couple complacent ones). So now I'm looking at the Audio-Technica 10 (which is currently on sale on most sites). I appreciate your review, @filmtex ...Although the Shure GLX-D series, with rechargeable batteries is looking like a pretty sweet option, too.

The only Drawback for the Shure (My guitar player has one) is that the proprietary cable is costly to replace (and his breaks once every 2 years or so) as compared to Line 6 units that use a standard 1/a plug (easy te replace, and available both in straight or Right angle, as you need it.

Shure GLX-D...been using two of them for years, without any drops. Sturdy, built-in tuner, auto-sync, and 16+ hour rechargeable batteries. I use the optional right angle cables.

[EDIT: I do carry two back-up cables in my gig bag, but my initial right angle cables haven’t broken to date...]

I'm using the AUDIO-TECHNICA ATW-1501, receiver in stomp box format, mini-din cable, regular AA batteries in the transmitter, right and straight plugs available from A-T.

The receiver has two outs and two modes, switching between the outs, or muting one out, so you have a little bit of signal routing as well. I've had really good battery life with regular alkalines, currently comparing rechargables though.

I got a bunch of input from folks here, a lot of Line 6 love, also for Shure, A-T not so much, but reading up, and talking with the few folks I know who have gone wireless, it was well regarded, and the price point was very competitive. Had it for about half a year now, no problems at all, even when I'm an idiot and forget to take my cell off my belt, where it is about 6" from the transmitter...
