I did it, it works fine. The input impedance of the mixer is high. The voltage of the speaker outputs is not significantly higher than line voltages. The mixer draws so little current the head barely knows it has the mixer connected to its outputs.

Never do this with any amp that uses a bridged output or most class d output stages. In these cases, the minus terminal is not at ground potential and serious damage to the amp or mixer or both can result.

This is in addition to a bad level match.

Yeah, and btw don't forget to plug a passive DI between tube power amp-out and speaker-in if you wish to send the tube sound of your tube power amp to FOH.

Is it possible? Yes it is basically possible unless it's a tube amp or Class-D or bridged amp!
Is it advisable? No it not advisable at all unless your knowledge of audio electronic provides sufficiant management of how to do it!

There's DI's made for this purpose and work exceptionally well. Look up Palmers DI's. I happen to have a $30 Joyo that also does this and use it on my HiWatt for recording. As long as the speaker is still in the circuit there's no potential for damage. The DI's "through" to the speaker is wired Parrallel and typically the outputs to the board have adjustable attenuators built in to compensate for various amp levels.

Again, Agehorses warnings are still true with this type of DI and a class D amp because the (-) will charge the outer casing with voltage and thus the board.

You are absolutely right.
My words above was some kind of sarcasm which I have to apologise.

I myself use a Palmer DI on my 70's SVT. I connect the DI daisy chaining to the cab to avoid the "additional" plug connections between amp and cab. However on my 70's 810 cab then the DI is plugged between amp and cab due to the single plug connecter on these old svt cabs.
