Wishbass Club pt. 2

As of today, the plan Wish has for my JB is to plane off the old fingerboard (it's purpleheart), install a truss rod and then install a new fingerboard. This should be interesting! Anyway, I told him there was no hurry so we'll see how it all shakes out. More news @ 11:00 ...

Hey Gang; I was printing out the latest Ebay bass offering by Wish and he mentioned in some questions he was answering that since no one has stepped up to buy the company, he will "carry on as usual". Does this mean the near mythical bass #1000 has just been demoted to "just another in a long line of others"? Hmmmmm ........

yep....is very interesting. on a diff note......

i was on my way to rehearsal the other night and had to stop by the repair shop to pick up one of my amps. i showed the guy at the shop my wish.....his reaction.

1. "I never thought i'd see another one of these basses." So apparently someone here in phoenix besides myself owns one.

2. "No offense, but that's probably the ugliest bass i've ever seen. Is the builder partially blind?"

3. "If it makes you happy, play it. Your's is in much better shape than the other one we got in here."

i laughed.

Doesn't it seem like Wish's stuff is getting snapped up more quickly now, and with less haggling over price? I find that interesting ... Good for him!

I think in the case of the Walnut lobe, which didn't last very long at all, is that it was such a remarkably gorgeous piece of wood. That was the first one in a long while that made me think, "maybe I do need another Wishbass"

I've had occasion to bring three different WB's into both West L.A. music, which is a fairly high end store, Sam Ash, and my local Guitar Center. (looking for gig bags) On each occasion the response has been the same. "Wow, cool..............feels great, it cost how much??" Even the guy at my local vintage/used shop finds them interesting, and likes the way they play. But then, we definitely don't own Wishbasses as status symbols, do we.............

I picked it up. I have absolutely no business with another wish, but here we are :) It was just too gorgeous to pass up. Surprised he listed it at $300. It would have sold at $400 no problem. Not to me though. Time to unload something in the meantime, maybe pete's three string.

(I hate links that open new windows!)

Gubna; You should have snapped this one up. I have not been a fan (visually I mean) of his earlier "candy cane" basses, but this one kind of knocked me out. I think it is the dark walnut with the minimal use of a much lighter wood - or something. Anyway, it is a very pretty guitar.

Newfuture: How does it feel and play so far? What are your plans for it?

He's gonna ship it out on Monday, fedex ground. Probably get it around 12/9 or so. Will keep you posted. As for my plans, I'm going to swap the EMG out for a Duncan split-J PU, run a ground wire, maybe install a varitone, and get the neck / fingerboard smooth, but the finish on this beast is surprisingly nice looking in the pics at least, so perhaps that's all I'll do. Other than play it.

I hate to say it, but don't put your sandpaper away!
