MJLuke; Geez, what a stunning Stude! Incredible. You're giving me G.A.S. in a major way with this one.

Thanks too, for the info on the strings. I think I gotta' check a set of those out. I am still a bit surprsided at how each Wish responds differenetly to different kinds of strings. I recently put Chrome flats on my JB, only to go right back to Wish's Dean Markleys - the improvement was more than noticable, both in tone and playability ( I do hate to scratch up a newly polished fingerboard though!). The neck on my JB is so thin it doesn't seem to tolerate a heavy string at all - go figure. I guess there was no trouble getting these long enough for a Wish?

It would be great so see a close-up of your bridge set-up - it's too dark to make out in these shots ... Ciao.

Not sure what the "G.A.S." is... Anyway here's the headstock with the gotoh tuners --detuner on the e-string.

And here is the Bridge Setup. I sent the bridge into Steve when I placed the order and he routed out a space in the body so the bridge can sit recessed a few millimeters. It's still a string-through design with this particular bridge. I also installed string ferrules on the back of the body.

I can't express enough how much I LOVE the sound and feel of this bass!

MJLuke; I was looking at your Stude photos again and realized that you live in Rio Rancho. Heck, I live in Albuquerque! If you are up for it I would love to hook up with you and actually see your bass in person. I still have 3 of my Wishes here in New Mexico (I'm moving to Austin in May & some stuff is already down there) along with my reinished JB so I could show you mine. What do you think? You could send me a private message for more details ...

Thunderitter: Very kool photos - thanks a lot. Is that you with the maple Lobe? Whoever it was - it looks like he was having fun. I hate to admit it, but I bid on the latest maple Lobe Wish had up and got it on a second chance offer. Saved myself $70! Gosh, just when I thought it was safe to look on Ebay again ...........

The Lobe is unfinished; been too busy of late. The reaction overall was how great the tone was and also the fact that it was very playable! The Lobe was actually played more than the Fantasy, which I think shape-wise is a little daunting for a lot of folks.

Thunder: That's great. The more exposure the better, I say. I know what you mean about the Fantasy - the first time I saw a picture of one I thought it looked like swaying seaweed or something - very odd at the time. Now I love the shape - same with the JB.

Wish ships out my maple Lobe Monday and I am growing anxious to get it! Maybe it will be as nice as yours? I love the extended horn on the right side on this one - it's a little different than most Lobes ...

Well, Wish sent this out today for me to inspect. It is my lacewood electric mando and he has it in front of the one recently listed on Ebay, I do believe. The pickup on this one was one he had included with another axe I bought from him so it has come full circle now. It is unfinished and although I did not ask, he left me lots of headstock wood to do a bit of reshaping up there - way to go, Wish! I guess this means that he will ship Monday, along with the curly maple Lobe. More news at 11:00. Cheers!

I just wanted to publicly thank MJL for welcoming me into his home this weekend so I could see, hear and "play" his custom order zebrawood Stude pictured earlier in this thread. Not only was the Stude just awesome, but it was fun to meet and talk shop in person with another Wishbass owner. I think Wish really outdid himself on this Stude - it really has a very professional feel to it. And I loved the nylon wrapped strings - I plan to buy a set and put them on one of my Wishes. Too bad I am moving; MJLuke is also an instructor - drat! ...

Anyway, what a nice way to spend some of my Sunday afternoon ...

Thunderitter: Hopefully MJLuke will comply with your request - this is one worth seeing more of. I thought about asking him if I could take some pix of it while I was there, but decided that might seem a little compulsive on our first visit! It has a lot of neet features I know you'd like to see - like the kool side mounted jack that is just ever-so-slightly sculpted into the wood and the black plastic rear cavity cover made out of pickguard material, and the black string-thru ferrels (all sent to Wish by MJL). With it's black string-thru bridge and different pup, at first glance it does not strike you as a Wishbass at all - it seems so much more refined than that; and it is - then again, so does your Fantasy, right? Anyway, it is a very, very nice axe and with the zebrawood, it has a nice heft to it as well. As you can tell, I was impressed! Nice guy, too ...

I'll take some decent shots of the Stude this week with my wife's Digital SLR. It was great hanging out with a fellow Wish enthusiast. I'm almost certain we've played once together perhaps at my church, 49sFine. You seemed so familiar to me –and my wife is certain she has met you before as well... I can't put my finger on it though! It's driving me crazy!

That's a Joe Barden J-Style pickup. To my knowledge the only hum-canceling jazz-bass style pick-up on the market. I had to order it direct from the manufacturer because no retailer would sell me just the bridge pickup by itself. Thanks to the folks at Joe Barden Engineering!!! They sent the pickup, all the wires and capacitors necessary for complete installation.

Also the Gotoh 206 String-Through Bridge. Ordered from Warmoth.

Once again my crappy finnish job... I'll be redoing it prolly soon... but also the black plastic (pickgaurd material) cavity cover (ordered from Warmoth and sent to Wishnevsky to cut into the correct shape), as well as the String Ferules wich I also sent in to Steve so he could route the holes to the correct diameter.

I also asked that he put the control cavity on the back --and the jack on the side of the body instead of the front. He had a peice of tin(?) covering the little cut-out he had made for the jack, but it was dangerously sharp on the edges and since I hadn't updated my tetinus shots I replaced it with a plain washer that was large enough to accomodate the jack and cover the hole he had drilled.

All in all I am VERY --very pleased with this instrument. I installed the Rotosound TruBass nylon wound strings and this bass just sings!!!! I love it!
I've played it at church once and immediately after the service a guy came up to me who said he used to work at Tobias(?) and had only great things to say about this bass. He commented on it's tone and identified each wood by sight... very cool... I think he was a little puzzled when I told him I ordered it custom from a gentleman named Steve Wishnevsky in N. Carolina... This bass sure does turn heads and seems to really please the ears!

See? That's what I am talking about! The Stude looks positively edible, doesn't it? Personally, I think MJL is being too harsh on himself when he talks about his "krappy" finish job - it looked sweet indeed to me. (Hmm, I never did ask about the additional tone control, now that I think about it ...)

I am not sure I agree with the assessment though, about the JBarden PUP being the only hum-canceling one available - James, want to chine in on this topic? I do believe there are others, although probably not too many.

Thanks for the great photos MJL, and you are probably correct - we probably did jam together at church back in the day, but of course it would have been with me playing drums. Now it's going to bug me trying to remember when! Oh, and I ordered a set of those strings yesterday, too.
