I had my eye on that all-Maple bass that didn't make reserve. Had visions of stripping the finish off, using a transparent stain on the body and then applying a clear finish. Darn thing sold in under 30 minutes for $300.:(

There will be others, I'm sure...

I think this has been re-posted on ebay.

no... just checked. I got a note from eBay saying that is was, but its not listed yet. Clearly, eBay moves in mysterius ways.

Wish relisted it yesterday morning at 6:05:20 PDT and it sold for $300 with Buy It Now at 6:58:59 PDT just 53 minutes and 39 seconds later.

A recent new Wish is back up as used one...it's the 6 string JB model with the 5 string Kent Armstrong soapbar with the outer strings outside of the pickup's magnetic field...

Bidder 1 bid three times on it without challenge...must want it badly! IIRC, that bass originally sold for $450.

yeah, I've been thinking of doing the refinishing to one or all of mine at some point. Right now I am doing my first finish job on a guitar - using Tru oil. It's really just a test for a bass I'm building. I've messed up the bass enough as it is, so I wanted to try to get the finish right.

Then at some point, I'll start on one of the wishbasses. These really were meant to be refinished anyway.

It was a minwax product that was supposed to bring out the grain. Not a finishing product of any type just a dyed wax, almost paste. I stippled it on and let it dry for a day or two then rubbed it with steel wool for about six hours then applied, well so far, 4 coats of high gloss tung oil with a dry time of 24 hours and 0000 steel wool between coats.

To say the least, it was an experiment to make boring wood look interesting. I can't decide if it is getting better or if it just looks dirty. But it is certainly unique and thus fits the instrument in a quirky way.

I haven't reassembled it yet, hence no pics. Perhaps I should just post some as is.

No it doesn't. i was basing my conculsion on the build quality of his work. I don't really care if its in the magazine or on his website. And even if this guy took it to another luthier to have it finished, that does not change the fact that it was built with the "working musicians wallet" in mind. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE MY WISH, I'm damn proud of it. But im not going to turn over and try to sell it for a grand.
