To the curious: thought I'd let ya know I posted a wishbass clip... for those that want to know what these things sound like, check it out here: http://fawm.org/songs.php?id=2369

This is for the FAWM (february album writing month) challenge this year. At the moment, it's drum loops, percussion and this wishbass, #697.

This is the bass that now has the delano split-coil PU replacing the emg select, and a varitone, which is engaged (mid scoop).

The recording is direct via a radial J48 and the pre on an RME fireface 800.
There's a little compression and mild EQ: -3dB @ 200hz (dip), +2dB @2.2khz (peak), +5dB @2.2khz (shelf), and a low cut @ 20hz.

The strings are GHS flats, as the d'addario's I originally bought were too short for the string-thru body.

edit: the link for the bass only version is here: Link Removed

Thanks! It's a hell of a conversation piece, worm holes and all :) I got lucky with this one: $200 off craig's list. Pretty good shape out of the gate too, just needed to do a little sanding to the fingerboard, which was buzzing a touch at the 1st position. Everything else I've done to it has been "elective surgery". Really comfortable instrument, and I dig the sound, especially since working on the electronics.

Question: what's the wood covered PU on your hyper?

Is the cocobolo just a cover or is an entire PU assembly housing? It is too nice. Can't make out the padouk in the pic though. Gives me an idea, maybe I'll raid my nephew's tinker toys for a wheel, they come pre drilled!

Here is my wishbass - I have had it since Sometime in December last year... Impressions so far the only negatives are - could have better finish (but it's a wishbass and that is what I expected) and the electricals are a bit noisy for my tastes (something I plan to fix)....

Now to the positives - the bass looks and sounds great - The responce to anybody I know who sees it is basically WOW... A lot of people have strangly commented on how much they like the headstock - I wasn't a fan of it in the photos but on this bass at least it seems to work. I have been getting invites to jam with it a lot. I love the action very low for a bass and find the neck very comfortable to work with.

Check the wiring. I have two Wishbasses and they are both dead quiet. When I got the second one it was very noisy and I found that Wish had reversed the hot and ground wires. A little solder work that the bass sounded great.

BTW, nice looking bass. I got mine without finish, sanded them a little and used Tung oil. Wish finds great looking wood.

It's nice to see the bass made it all the way to Australia! With the single-coil pickup you may get some hum near computer monitors, lights, etc. I have also noticed that some of the EMG Select pickups are wired incorrectly (ground and hot reversed).

I recently bought a Wishbass control harness via eBay. Basically, it is a Wishbox for installation in the bass.

I think this was the first one that has been built for sale, but installation (a bit of soldering) was easy and I am really happy with the tone variation it gives me on my Wishbass! My Wishbass is now in the process of a refin so no sound clips right now.

I think the builder is a contributor to TB so if he reads this I would suggest you build some more as I am sure you will have a ready market! Good job!

Yes...more will be made...some with the 6-position Varitone and others with a single custom CTS tone control with Sprague Orange Drop capacitors.

Okay, after reading 43 consecutive pages of this thread (sorry, bossman) I am totally sold. The KISS philosophy, the folk art aesthetic, the beautiful woods...coupled with my "can't leave well enough alone" tendencies to modify...perfect.

I don't think I'm up for the crapshoot of a custom-order, though, but as soon as the right one comes up on the 'bay I'm all over it.

New one just came up on eBay a few minutes ago...plain mahogany tho (hey, $250). Nicer woods and I'da snatched it up.

It's too bad the hyper 4 string that was up yesterday is gone...that was the one to get. Of the ones up now, the 4 string Lobe ambrosia is pretty sweet...probably won't sell for the $400 he's asking. He'll relist it at $300 next week if that's the case. Just sayin' :)

Yeah, Wish will almost always drop his price by $100 if it doesn't sell the first time on eBay. Most 4-strings will sell for $300 and sometimes $200 if you are lucky.

Hi everybody I'm new to talkbass. I ordered a bass from wish about three weeks ago. Its a 5 string Fantasy bass with a kent p-up, wenge back neck and fingerboard, and a zebra wood top. I emailed wish for an update on my bass and he said it had about one week left.
