Hey 3stringpete- forgive me if it isn't you- But are you the one who sold that acoustic "wishbass" on ebay a few weeks ago- it was a sort of greenish paint, short scale, and based partially on the "banana bass"?

Is wish planning to make that model? I kindof liked it and would consider ordering one from him.. Maybe just unpainted/finished.

I think Wish is "planning" to retire... says that he's gonna probably stop around wishbass number 1000, and I think he's in the late 800's now, so figure maybe sometime next year.

if you want a custom, I'd contact the guy soon. mine took about 3 months last year - ordered november, received in Feb.

It's hard to say if Wish will make another one like that. He mentioned that it took him more time since he didn't have a form to shape the sides. He wasn't happy with the results, but after it was assembled and after "hearing" it, I think he was impressed. The "natural" or unfinished birch plywood became rather scarred, burnt, etc. during the building process. If he built you a similar model, you will probably want to paint it a solid color. That's one reason why most of his "banana" basses are painted yellow...to hide the rusty clamp stains, hot iron burns on the sides, splinters from drilling holes, etc. (Yes, his finish work is lacking, but for under $400 you can't beat the tone and uniqueness.)

I was very impressed with the bass. I will probably order a similar semi-hollow...but with three strings and a body shape that is similar to his "Wishborne" Hawaiian lap steel guitar. Should be interesting!

I bought an all mahogany Wishnevsky Hawaiian several months ago and sold it to a guy in New York. It was very cool, but I didn't have the patience to learn how to play it. I am currently playing a Wishnevsky mandolin...with a spruce top and back from a 100 yr old piano that was left by the curb for trash pickup. Wish rescued it. It sounds incredible. Many folks don't realize that Wish's real talent is with acoustic stringed instruments.

the bass i ordered from him about 2 months ago that i posted a page or to back will be done in 3 weeks so its cristmas present for myself. but the only problem is he says he cant do the carving on the body scroll so i have to do it i dont mind but it means it will be out of commision for a while

I'm tellin' ya, sometimes you can't tell where a Wish leaves off and a Klingon marital aid begins.

That said, the snapshot of the made-by sticker on top of the peghead bothers me. It could be just the photo, but does it look to you like the neck's got a severe twist? Pretty hard to get that kind of torque on a 14" neck. Maybe it's just the headstock carving, perhaps.
