I guess this is my point--to me, it *isn't* much of a problem, either on the MTD or on the Wish.
What I saw on the MTDs were routes that were oversized, rough in spots (i.e., not as cleanly cut or finished as I would have assumed it would be for that $$), and not symmetrical around the PUs (i.e., more gaps around some parts than others). All I'm saying is that I don't really care that much about stuff like this. I don't much care about the not extremely exacting job on the MTD because it doesn't mean anything in terms of tone or playability, and it doesn't prevent the MTD from being a great bass. I don't much care about it on the Wish because, again, even though it's substantially worse, it still doesn't mean anything in terms of tone or playability, such as those may be, and it doesn't prevent the Wish from being whatever it may be.
Personally, I'd worry more about the uneven look of that fingerboard. That could affect playability without a doubt. So would bad PU placement, a misplaced bridge, a poorly balanced body, poorly chosen woods, dodgy electronics, a badly made or shaped neck, etc. I'm not sure if the Wish suffers from any or all of those, but these things seem more crucial than the PU route.
