Wolf 5 String rebuild

I typically use Lepages carpenters glue which is an aliphatic resin I think. It dries crystalline and I haven’t had issues with creep. My ebony six is glued with black potting epoxy which is really hard. I need to check out other glues as well but that’s for another time.

I’m sure it’s been discussed. I was just curious if wood glues were supposed to work with Blackwood Tek or not.
I glued two scraps together and will do a break test later.

I drilled through the headplates for the tuners. Got a little chip out but that was because I did it hamfisted with a hand drill and 24 mm brad point bit. Takes the dust/superglue trick well though it’s all under the tuner washers anyway. Results would be much better properly jigged up and using my drill press. Just wasn’t in the mood to trudge out through the snow to the garage.

Did a little sanding with 220 and the surface looks like it will polish nicely. This product has a nice surface with no pores at all.

It looks like it will show well with fine sanding and finishing.

Sanded the overlay with 220 and followed with a wipe of Truoil and viola! I’m liking it. The stuff is really interesting. I started leveling the surface with 60 grit as I wanted to take down the thickness. It sanded quickly but there were no deep sanding marks. The 120 grit sanding was pretty good and 220 looks better. I am thinking it will polish up better then ebony. It’s pretty much giving the look of a rosewood with the toughness of a high grade ebony.
