..I think Clapton's "wonderful tonight" is the closest thing to a perfect song as any that I have had the honor of experiencing in this life...it has beautiful phrasing musical and vocal..classic storytelling..musically straight to the point..everytime I hear that song i thank God I'm alive

Well, I’m glad that you can enjoy the song so much. I think Nathan East does a tremendous job playing it live. However, between playing guitar and bass, I have played this song thousands of times over the years, and I don’t care if I ever hear it again.

P.S. If this is an ironic troll post…. …Ya got me. :)

HaHa... same thoughts. Though I still love giving it all I've got. Will be playing it tomorrow again... and next week... and the next...

Our band does it sometimes. And we do it well. Drummer doesn't like it cause it is so slow, and he always has a hard time keeping it from running away.

But it is especially nice seeing so many in the audience singing along with it.

So it comes down to the audience, if they like it and sing along, you must be doing something good.

The original recording from "Slowhand" has Carl Radle on bass. Nathan recruited for later albums.

Ya know, I had to come back here just to say thank you to @Pfun :) .

For some reason I think this is one of the most epic posts on Talkbass, and I'm sorry it didn't get more mileage. Its brought new meaning to the song every times I've played it since.

Read it to my band and it floored them all.

Very well delivered.

Kudos.

And I'm out.
