Hey guys, I am new to this thread. I have never played a wood & tronics bass but soon will. I have ordered a Chronus 5. The body is made of alder, with a maple neck and Kingswood finger board. I ordered it to have jazz pickups in the 60's position. The top will be painted white, the pickups, and control knobs will match the wood of the fingerboard. It will have a John East 3 band pre and Hipshot bridge and tuning keys. Here is a pic of the build.

I am having Mama Special J pickups installed in it. I had never heard of that brand, but Enrico assures me that they are perfect for me. J., you didn't know this, but I learned of Wood & Tronics watching your YouTube video. It was a video of a band you were in that had the word Sea in it. The tones you were getting out of that bass haunted me for months; I could not get it out of my head, so I finally decided to order one for myself. I too owned a Skjold. I loved the tone but it didn't work for me ergonomically. The place where I rested my right forearm, cut off the circulation to my right hand. I thought that I was developing carpal tunnel. I just happened to play my MTD, and noticed I didn't have the same problem. Pete is a great guy, and his basses sound awesome. I just saw him at Gerald Veasleys Bass Bootcamp. I should have my WT in a month or so; can't wait.

Man, thats cool, thanks for saying that! That band is The Billy Sea, out of Asheville, NC. The W&T fit really well into that mix, which was a weird mix of world music, jazz, fusion, and Americana. I always liked the way the tone profile of that bass sat with the percussionists hybrid kit and the electric slide guitar.

That bass moved on and is owned by Shannon Hoover, one of South Carolinas ginest (and busiest) players.

Re: ergonomics, the Chronos is very comfortable. it has a very organic feel, and melts nicely into your lap. to make a more accurate comparison, my new Skjold hollowbody vs my old W&T hollowbody, I prefer the way the Skjold feels, and sounds. Ergonomics is tricky when discussing hollowbody basses, because by design they have more body depth and dimension. I will say, for an extra thick body, the Skjold is very comfortable. I think Pete made great strides to address ergonomics and comfort with his new models.

I havent played a non catacomb Drakkar, so I cant make an apples to apples comparison to my old poplar Chronos.

Havent heard the MAMA pickups, but I know Enrico likes them, and he has very good, and discerning taste.

Jay, so you have Skjold now? You sold both of your WTs? Did they no longer fit your tonal needs? Just curious? I read your review of the first WT, and you sounded as though you were quite smitten by it. Is there something I don't know?

Hi Virgil,

I had two W&T's, the blonde (poplar topped) 6, and the Redwood hollowbody prototype. I sold the Hollowbody prototype because the nut width was too wide for me in first position. That bass sounded amazing, especially with flats. The other one, which was my main bass, I sold because I had an opportunity to build an artist relationship with Skjold, which was something he and I had been discussing for years. When the stars aligned and the right opportunity came along, it made the most sense for me. I have been really happy with my new Skjold. They are VERY different instruments, but both are well executed visions of what they were going for.

I continue to sing praises of W&T basses, as I think they're not only amazingly designed and built, but are also among the best value out there for instruments of this caliber, and following these design goals. There are a lot of singlecut neck thru's out there, but the cohesion of the W&T was exceptional. So don't worry :)

the one in my Avatar, its one of the new designs based on the Erskine Whaleback, the Drakkar. Its on his website, with a handful of other Drakkars that are semi hollow, like mine

Hi guys my experience with both Chronos and Zoid shape was great, talking about ergonomical. This year I designed a new shape that fuses these 2 bodies and a custom birdseye wood pickguard . Hope you like it!
For Virgil ... MAMA is a amazing italian pick-up brand, so keeping trust in Enrico ;)

I have never heard of Mama pickups. In the states we use mostly Bartonini, Aguilar, Nordstrand etc. You know how they sound, and how they perform yeart after year. Mama is not a name most of us are familiar with, so there is some hesistation. I do trust Enrico, and am excited to receive my new bass.

Your bass is amazing. How much will it weigh upon completion?

and VAT. I had to write a check for a few hundred bucks at the time of delivery, or they wouldn't leave it. That stung a bit. Didnt happen the second time, but definitely the 1st.

But W&T's wait time was just as advertised, both times for me.
