I keep a work bass, cab, and small amp (BAM200) at work cuz I never know when I can practice
during the week. And.... our band changes rehearsal days/times on th efly, every time. So I try to
be prepared for what the youngsters decide. Like herding cats, or worse.
I use the BAM200 as a headphone amp and it does a darn good job without disturbing the natives

I currently have two "parked" at remote work sites that I rotate to. When I'm there M-TH I take it to the hotel and play with a headphone amp. And that reminds me that I need to move one of them and donate the $100 pawn shop special rather than move it.

Here is my work bass situation.

I bought an Ibanez TMB100 to keep in my work truck; it is the only 4-string I have and the cheapest thing I can get in a reliable platform. It stays in my truck 24/7/365, so it sees winter temps as low as the teens (east coast mid-Atlantic region) and searing heat & humidity up to 105° outside (and probably 120° in the truck). It’s been performing flawlessly since April 2021.
I modded it with the cheapest MM pickup I can find, $13 on Amazon - sounds amazing.

It plays very well, only after I did a bunch of fret leveling and after removing a gobs of overspray in the neck heel to get the neck to lay flat on the body. With all the paint in the heel, the neck sat cocked with the G-side higher off the body than the E side.

I also 'work' from home, in the same room where I practice, so its available for frequent, needed sanity checks.

Also:
Just today, I picked it up and put a Karaoke version of Sultans of Swing on YouTube, and Jammed away ...

I just happen to be working on this song too - along with 'Skateaway'. Great songs, and so much fun to play.

Who all has a bass they keep at their work to use during the day?

I spend a lot of time on the road, so my work bass is a travel bass. Portable in a backpack that fits into the overhead compartment on flights. I love being able to assemble it and play in hotels, on the way to meetings, or in the airport waiting to board (yeah, I'm THAT guy). It really has changed the way I feel about being on the road for work.

Previously I tried smaller travel basses, but I never really connected with them. This Overhead bass feels and sounds like a professional instrument. It has a great feel, great tone, and is a joy to play. I would be fine gigging with it. I have been thinking about getting a fretless neck to swap out.

I've had basses in my home office for years. Once the pandemic hit and home became "the office," I arranged my basses in a rack that people could see over my shoulder when I was on virtual meetings. I can't count the number of times people would comment: "ooh, look at all those guitars," "are you a musician?," "what a cool office," etc. It's been a great ice breaker on meetings.

I'll pick up a bass throughout the day if I need a quick break or if a song comes on I want to play along with.

Did anyone say "nice background" as if it was an image? I got that a few times, took it as a compliment, and showed them it was real. :)
