I saw a thread about someone wanting a work bass. It gave me GAS as my role can be EXTREMELY cyclical.

Who all has a bass they keep at their work to use during the day?

I used to, but as a commercial helicopter pilot working in a large city, not having both hands on the controls upset some of the clientele.

I did pre-Covid. Not in the office enough to make it worthwhile now.

I had an Ibanez SR00 in my office for years and enjoyed having it during my downtime.

I work from home now and my bass are easily within reach when I'm at my desk.

I voted yes because I keep 1 bass right next to my desk, a U-bass copy.

...but I work from home and my instrument collection is on the other end of the living room, in frame when I'm on video calls.

I have a Guild Starfire II in the office. Looks nice and starts conversations. I honestly rarely play it while working.

I keep a work bass, cab, and small amp (BAM200) at work cuz I never know when I can practice
during the week. And.... our band changes rehearsal days/times on th efly, every time. So I try to
be prepared for what the youngsters decide. Like herding cats, or worse.

I keep a bass at the office, but not to use during the day. The rehearsal space I use is next door, so it saves a trip home on rehearsal nights. I have a practice amp handy under my desk as well, just in case.

I was assigned in 2015 to help design an employee music room and I got Fender Squiers for that in our San Diego campus. I brought my bass occasionally and left it there. Now I am totally remote, so I grab a bass when I have a break and occasionally in status meetings where I only need to speak for a minute.

Even before music rooms, I saw many folks including myself bring in their instrument and play during lunch. In 2002 - we moved from one building in San Diego to another next to it. Since we still had access to the old building, some of the guys used that for rehearsal and they played loud in the old server/lab room which was air conditioned. Once they moved the fitness rooms to the new building they removed the access but it was a fun 8 months.

I have in the past but not anymore. I also play drums and a practice pad takes up a lot less space in the locker.

I do, wouldnt mind having a work beater that i dont have to worry about, for now its just an extra bass

For the years I ran my own business both myself and my brother (guitarist) kept gear at our office and played when we had a few minutes. Not so much anymore, though, would get me canned.

I’ve never had a position with any down time whatsoever. If I have time to play bass on the clock they don’t need me. Even if I did it on lunch break it’s bad for business. Hobbies visible at work would mean I make too much money and have too much free time.

Do you mean not in a professional band, recording studio, or guitar shop, but at a job, job?
