world record bass speed

I think the there are two problems with a bass speed record. One, most people would consider bass to be a bass *guitar*. So it would just fall under the guitar record.

And more importantly.... what is the definition of a bass? For a speed record I think you would want as short a scale as possible, with basically guitar strings, maybe tuned higher. Or should only a DB count?

I'll second Jayen Varma. He is crazy fast.

And I'll also remind everyone that yes, of course speed at that point doesn't matter!! But we still don't care for discussing the importance of groove right now. All we care about is the world record speed for the bass guitar.

OK, so some names of bass guitarists (and upright bass players) have been thrown out for you. What more are you really looking for?

The question was who holds the record? When I put "worlds fastest bass guitar player" in Google, up come links for worlds fastest drummer and worlds fastest guitar player. That would lead me to believe that either very few people care, speed doesn't matter much when playing bass, bass players don't care about setting speed records (maybe they're more interested in grooving! :D), or that the best bass players are recognized more for things other than speed.

I also suspect that some of those links that come up in Google point directly to self-proclaimed "fastest in the world" players. If that's the case, whoever really feels a need to claim the title "fastest bass guitar player" go ahead. Once you get your proclamation out there maybe you'll get some takers to prove you right/wrong and then maybe Guiness will look into it.
