world record bass speed

Okay, I come to the rescue!!

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

36b/sec -> 36 x 60= 2160?? Please ... that is ridiculous :$

From what I've seen on that guy's MySpace videos, I'm pretty sure I can go way faster than that.

I mean, he was nominated regardless of accuracy of playing. Look at his 23/8 video and you'll see and hear how very approximate his playing is. Slow it down with an audio editing software if you can, and you won't hear much of precise and tight playing...

Wanna be impressed with speed bass ? OK, let's look and hear at Stanley, Victor, Jeff etc.

"The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul." --Johann Sebastian Bach. (Taken from CraigG's signature line).

That answers the question.

Furthermore, somewhere in heaven, the old masters like Sor, Regondi, Paganini, Wienawski, Vieuxtemps, Bottesini, et al., are laughing at the debate over something as silly as BPM. First, because they had more technique than any of these modern-day "shredders" (like Paul Gilbert, et al.). Second, because they had infinitely greater taste, and knew that speed was only another means, or effect, to be utilitzed.

What does it matter if you can play 400 bpm in downstrokes if you have no clue about phrasing or dynamics? Or the architecture of a piece?

I'd like to see someone come on here and ask, "Who here can play pppp?" "Who has the steadiest ritardando through the end of (insert song here)?"

that still defeats the purpose of your rant,... yes speed is just a 'tool' for the toolbox,... but come on, that donna lee at very fast speed on double bass gives you more than you just asked for,...

for me and my genre's that extend into the metal side of things I would like to see bassists that keep up with the shredding guitarists and the psycho double bass drummers... even if they don't qualify as 'the fastest in the world' I think its good to know there are crazy people out there :)

as someone earlier said, im off to go practice (tho im without the drugs!)
and just cos im in the mood,... ;)

fast with architecture in a peice whilst holding down the role of a bass player and not just a 'shredder'

still not insanely fast I guess, I'm sure theres faster...

*Insert yawn* It never fails to amaze me how ppl who care nothing about a threads subject read the thread and go through the actions of posting just to show their discontent when they could just shake their head in silence and not wasted bandwidth LOL. Also, they assume that just because you ask about one aspect of playing that means you dont care or cant execute any other. Lastly they try to emphasize things that depending on your genre of choice, has no place or importance in what you play. Even if I was a jazz player for the rest of my life, it will not affect my career, gig opportunity, or happiness one bit if I didnt recognize those names.

palm grease;6158579]hahahahahah!!!!

FAIL!

I wonder if Pino, JMJ, Aaron Mills, Raphael Sadiq, Thundercat, Mike Elazondo, Hub, Adam Blackstone...feel that way too? Maybe you should expose yourself to a wider range of music. That might change your view on what you consider to be music!

Who?? .. Don't recognize a single name here.. If they are "established" Hip Hop whatevers, then my time is way too precious to "expose" my brain/ears to wannabe artists when there are so many others that actually rate a listen.. sorry
