Worlds First Drum Machine in Pedal Form!

For timing practice I'm quite certain a metronome is a much better tool. Playing to a click at 50 bpm is much different than playing along to a beat at 50 bpm. And open to lot more variation. Also IMO makes playing much more concise, as there are no hi hats or cymbals to mask minor inconsistencies. Drum machines on the other hand are great to learn to play in the pocket and do groove work. Both excellent practice tools, but for different reasons.

Well, under the old forum system we would be ready for Part 2...just in time for the Beat Buddies to actually arrive? This has been quite the journey. I was dating/engaged for far less time before getting married.

Fair enough. I guess I would say they help you practice different aspects of timing, so that's why I said the Beat Buddy would be "more useful." I don't think more fun is in dispute. :D And actually, someone asked if a metronome click track will be available in Beat Buddy. I don't know if it will be, but you could always create one. It's a little silly, but a (small) reason I don't pull out the metronome more often (or at all) is because I have to actually find it and get it out. If my BB is already wired up to go through my amp, that's one less hurdle.

I can't play along with this yet since I'm still in my office. I did however hook up a pair of higher end AKG headphones to the piece and familiarized myself with the operation and layout. That way when I'm home, I can just plug and play.

First thoughts, man......very intuitive to use. Wonderful drum sound samples. I spent quite a lot of time listening to the funk and latin "grooves" since those are the genres I play mostly. I'm very impressed by the preset patterns. This unit is light years ahead of the Zoom unit I currently have.

Disclaimer: my Zoom unit is many, many moons old. I don't know if they have a unit that is more up to date and "relevant".

That's exciting, sounds like people may be starting to get the devices soon.

If I understood the last update correctly and there have been no further hiccups, then the international shipping should be happening now and the US shipping should be happening early next week.

It's not clear to me where KMC is located, but yes, I too am extremely curious where he received it from...

Google says that's Kaman (I love my Ovation!) headquarted in CT, facilities in TN and CA...

From the U.S. I'm not the importer.

My office is in Connecticut at the headquarters.

I understand.
Still, I've received stuff directly from suppliers in China, so ya never know.
Thanks for the response.

I got straight to their website but it wasn't obvious where they were located. I got lazy after that.

Considering no one is reporting tracking numbers, I'm not falling all over myself based on this news just yet. I'm just speculating (99% of what this thread is about anyway), but it seems entirely possible that David brought a few units separately when he returned to the states, and that was one of the units that was sent to KMC. So in my mind, there's still no word on the mass shipment to the US...

How they got here is not interesting to me ;-)
Could have been a small shipment air-freighted back to the US from the first units off the line to send places like the long-lead-time press for review (nice to have a review in the glossies before Christmas...). _Could_ have been hand-wired preproduction items from the prototype shop.

More interesting to me to speculate is why samples are going to a major musical-instrument distributor. I'm not expecting any sort of confirm-or-deny from Mr hasbeen (he picked the username, not me...) but it's interesting to ponder the possibilities.

IMO - the major takeaway is that for the first time, _someone_ not directly connected with the company (as far as we know...) has actually held and exercised a real product...

It's interesting to me inasmuch as it might indicate that mine is closer...which, sadly, I don't think this does.

I agree, though, that it's nice to have an official unit in the hands of a non-Beat Buddy person. Even many of the "reviews" which have been posted over the last several months were not hands-on reviews, they were "hey this looks cool" reviews.
