Worship Bass Pedalboards

So, I need an overdrive of some kind, a DI of some kind, and a compressor of some kind. I'm open to the DI and overdrive being in the same pedal.

Any experiences with the Eden World Tour, Mesa Subway, or Aguilar Tone Hammer DIs?

I do have experience with both the Eden and the Aguilar DIs. Not the Mesa, though I'd love to try one.

I have had my Tone Hammer for almost 6 years now and it has been in the chain and turned on for almost every gig I've done in the last 6 years, live and studio, not just for worship. It gives you plenty of control over the tone and is a quality DI. That said, the AGS doesn't really work like a stompbox distortion because there is always going to be a volume jump between the circuits based on it's design. It does handle having a OD run into it though. Over the years I've used the pork loin, a Sansamp BDDI (as distortion), SFT, Agro, and B3K. All were good, the B3K is my current love.

As for the Eden, our church still has one that's been broken for years. I found the features to give a baked-in "Eden" tone which was never my thing. Coupled with the fact that it was constantly throwing fits made me run away fast from it.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I went ahead and ordered the larger alpha omega with the DI, as well as a Noll preamp for my bass. Both my main basses will have Noll preamps in them now so I don't think I'll need one on my board. I generally play with great house support at church so they can handle the EQ and I'll only make changes if they ask for them. They can do compression as well so I'll add a compressor next but will go without for now.

It reminds me of when I used to lead worship for a small group bible study at a friend's house. Maybe 10 people, but I brought my acoustic guitar, amplifier, and pedalboard. Totally unnecessary. Totally worth it. Even if it was only worth it to me.

The DG AO, AOm, and VMT are super pedals! Many people use them as their primary OD pedal. I found that they didn't give me the thickness that the MBD-1 provides at low gain. If you jump over to the DA thread, you'll see a lot of people use the MBD-1 as their OD "foundation" and then stack,either before or after, with DG and other pedals. But it's very much an IME/IMHO thing. That's why pedals are such a rabbit hole for most of us...

I ran the SolidgoldFX Beta DLX into the VMT last night and that seemed to thicken things up. Running gain on the Beta around 10:30. I think I'm liking this combo ...

Then again, maybe it's just the Beta DLX. May have to try running it solo ...

......I'm also considering a B3Kv2 to stack with the MBD-1...but I'll know better after tonight, if I'm making any "stacking progress" with the Thorpy...

Update...ThorpyFX pedal going back—did not work for my basses and board. Keeping the AOm on my board for now...

I played a jazz gig last night with an amp (Genzler MG350 Combo) my bass (Roscoe Century Plus 5) and a (ExaltBass) cable. Not even a tuner. It sounded so good. I haven't played a non-IEM/DI/Effects gig for so long I forgot how nice it sounds to just go bass --> amp. Makes me want to "forget" to use my effects at the gig tonight (cover band) and see if anyone notices. I know they wouldn't at church.

I should update my board pic. Pretty much sold everything (again) for a Noble (again) so basically only have a handful of essentials.

Had a snow day here with a blizzard so I made a quick diy pedal board. I have ordered some new patch cables so ignore those for now.

I took a piece of 1/2" ply scrap, put both pedals on it to measure, cut about 6" off it with a table saw. Then i stretched some black fleece over it and glued it down to the back side. Finally I attached two risers on the back with some 1" drywall screws. It will work until I get something better.

I wish I could hear how it sounds out front. Like, does my filter (that I use for 1 song) really come through and make the song? My board is full of that. I didn't use many last night and no one really cared. Hmmmm....

That's like I said before. We do most of it for our own gratification. I'd bet money that 95% or more of the congregation wouldn't care if you were playing a $200 Squier or a $6,000 Fodera . . . or know the difference. Let alone using effects.

I went from a $4500 CallowHill, to a $5000 Fodera, to a $3000 RBass, to a $350 Squier.....and several guys at our church, some professionals, noticed the tonal difference....but I've started modifying the Squier, to fix that problem.

I also find that when I'm loving my sound I tend to play better, or at least am less distracted so more inside the performance. More in the groove. That will contribute to a better performance by the band and to the punters having a better time on some subliminal level.

So they may not know why but my tone benefits the punters when it's good. Yes, it matters to me primarily and I may be the only one who identifies if it's working or not. But, my sound and my performance is part of the sum of the parts...

Also true. When I feel like my sound or my playing is off, the experience is ruined for me. Which is to say I don't have my priorities straight. Because worship is not about me. But . . . as an added bonus . . . when my sound is on, when I'm hitting the right notes and runs, when the sound man is on his game, when I can feel the bass rumble so much that it borderline gives me diarrhea, and the Spirit of God is moving, there is NOTHING better.
