Have you tried the OCSD after the Noble? Just curious ... :)

I considered this, but my OCS is pre Noble at the moment. And it ain't broke so I'm not going to fix it. The Noble's DI is superior to the OCS. I have considered the OCS might bring out even more of the Noble's magic but curiosity has not gotten the best of me yet.

Nope, just saying that a small board can work well, too. I stil consider my Nano an effects board and my OCSD an effect pedal.

If I were a minimalist, I'd have a passive 4 string 20 fret P bass. I did put flats back on my JB-2 last night and ran just the neck pup. Would be a great sound for a bunch of cover stuff.

Yeah we've always done the Phil Wickham version at my church and I feel its bass tone is more standard in a sense (still sounds great tho). Just when I stumbled across the Shane and Shane version that bass just stood out big, front, and center. "How can I get that sound?!?" :) it might be the bass level is just higher in the mix for the S & S version. I'll have to mess around and see if I can coax out something similar, sounds like I have all the necessary puzzle pieces.

I have a potentially naive question: I know the OCSD does a lot of EQ on top of its own HPF/LPF-type functionality, but how much of its "special sauce" is covered by a stand-alone HPF/LPF, ala a Broughton HPF/LPF pedal? Has anyone tried both?

On the 'Big' board I use three HPFs: OCSD - which is variable, microThumpinator 'always on' which has a sharp HPF below 30Hz to clean up wasted low energy, and the Noble' which is a switchable set at 150Hz. Depending on the need, it is either in or out. They have their purpose.

On 'Little' just the OSCD and Broughton (used like the mT)

The sound crew LOVE the mT and Broughton, as we use 8 x 15" subs at church. It really cleans up the rumble.

my most recent rendition...I have the Darkglass Alpha Omega Ultra as well that I will swap in for the Vintage Ultra if I want a different dirty tone.

I asked the same question on page 108 about the Phil Wickham version so there's some responses there too if you look back. We play this ok but I wish we could play it EXACTLY like the original PW version, with the big fat synth riff too. That is one of my all time fave bass sounds on that tune. He appears to be playing a Jaguar bass too. That looks really badass. If there is one thing that gives me GAS it's a Jaguar bass. Even though I'm not crazy about the amount of switches on them, there is just something really sexy about that body shape
