I may have overstated it a little, but I was trying to be in the ballpark - you get the point.

There may or may not have been backing tracks for Korey, Seth, and Jen - they were very credibly going through the motions at least. FWIW I didn't really buy it from the cello guy at certain points either.

I guess with the type of band they have become John just figures it's more important to be a showman. Still wish I could have seen them in their self-titled album era.

Probably not the high-energy clip you were looking for, but here's one of the oldest recordings I found on Youtube. The "Ardent Worship: Skillet" album was one of my favorites back in the day. But I'll let you in on a little secret. It wasn't actually recorded live. Shhhhh.

The cello girl I saw on YouTube was unconvincing at best.

Yeah, that was possibly my least favorite era of Skillet. Never a huge fan of Korey's voice either.

A cobbled-together gut-reaction personal ranking of Skillet albums:
(1) Skillet
(2) Alien Youth
(3) Unleashed
(4) Collide
(5) Awake
(6) Rise
(7) Hey You, I Love Your Soul
(8) Invicible
(9) Comatose
(10) Ardent Worship

Every thing except the top two and bottom two could be adjusted by 1-2 spots without much complaint from me.

According to their Wikipedia somebody named "Tate Olsen" has been their touring cellist since 2008, no one else is listed. This was a bigger guy but he did have long hair and was almost wearing a kilt sort of thing...

Good stuff. While Korey is a lovely person and I love her on keys and the stage presence that she added/adds, I've never been a huge fan of her singing either. I never saw the point of putting her on guitar. She was so awesome on keys and running tracks and stuff. It seemed like a token gesture to me. I understand evolving, but to a certain extent, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

She's playing guitar in Ledger as well.

Upon a quick run through Spotify, I would like to bump "Rise" to the #4 slot...still feel a lot of conflict about these rankings. :)

Hmmm...no experience with the Barbershop and Fifth Gear, but I've owned the VU (and VMT)...

I thought the VMT (dimed era knob) achieved more of a vintage "tube-esque" tone, which I could never replicate with the VU.

Funny thing was...I had the VMT and picked up a VU, thinking more bells and whistles—had planned to sell the VMT. But I could never get the VU distortion (with plenty of time a/b'ng) to sound quite as good...so, sold the VU!

Eventually sold the VMT, too...but I probably should have kept it for specific applications...

I have read alot of posts where people prefer the VMT or the Deluxe over the VU, but you know, more switches :) Yeah, I do like my VMT. I'll have better EQ once the OCSD arrives. It shipped last week ...
