Question for those with ampless IEM setups that DI straight to the desk: Do you go in clean or have some kind of amp modelling?
I go through an MXR M81. Whilst it gives a nice clean tone, I can't help but keep thinking what something like a VTDI or Omni Cab Sim Deluxe would bring to the table. I see the OCSD mentioned a lot and also that there is now a mini version. I had a VTDI briefly in a previous setup (used XLR to DI then went parallel to a small amp) and perhaps didn't give it enough of a chance. I'd sold it before we went IEM so the M81 is actually all I've tried on the ampless stage so far.
I'm not really a pedal guy, I just have a tuner and the M81 taking up half of a PT nano board. Would just like to get a killer tone and wondered if a cab sim is the way to go
A good DI will go a long way. While a Jule Monique is my go to and quite expensive I often use a Acme Motown DI or a countryman type 85.
