really nice and does the job pretty well, I was using a Sansamp Programmable DI before and I kind of miss the 3 presets (clean, slap, overdrive), but this thing is awesome by having two separate inputs and I love the sounds it delivers (so many options). I got it like 4 months ago, and then I saw that they announced the Microbass 3 at NAAM
which looks even better, so if you get it you wont regret it
Just got one last night. It's great for replacing the kind of setup you have, as long as you're willing to live with the fact that it doesn't *perfectly* model what you have already.
I built a simple "Church" preset that is:
Compressor -> Overdrive (switchable) -> Chorus + Reverb (switchable) -> Para EQ -> GK amp sim
The GK sim is because that's what I use on stage, and the sim won't run into the amp, only into the Send channel that I'm sending to FOH.
It took me less than a hockey game on TV to get all of that set up and sounding decent, and that included updating the firmware and figuring out how to do all that without reading the instructions.
One thing I learned really quick is that Line6 for whatever reason *really* likes showing off distortion. The defaults on almost all the amp models have the gain cranked to where they break up, but it's simple to dial them back. Also, it pays to learn what real gear their made-up models names correspond to, then think about if you were twiddling knobs on that real gear. That kept me from getting lost in the settings.

Yes! it would be useful to see a list of the line 6 effect names vs real life, I read that there's a darkglass b7k effect and I would love to hear it.
Also does it have a balanced output? like could I connect directly to the snake or still need a DI? I know you mentioned that the GK sim only goes to FOH but how does that work? I know some Preamp DIs only have cab sim for the XLR output and not for the 1/4 output, but afaik the HX stomp does not XLR. Hope I explained my self well, english is not my 1st language

Thanks man, I'm looking at that section of the manual, it's 8 pages of awesomeness, now I want the hx stomp even more. Do you use the HX effects alone? or combine it with analog pedals?
No worries on all the questions! I'll try to break them all down.
- Line6 vs. real life: Helix Help On the top menu, pick "Models" then drill into whatever effect you're looking at.
- The B7K model is pretty cool. I've never owned a real one so I can't speak to how they compare, but I was able to get useful distortions from mild overdrive to serious heavy metal sounds. Note that it's also a preamp--it's got 4-band EQ. You can run the output into an IR block and pretty much model the functionality of a real B7K Ultra.
- The main outputs are balanced/unbalanced. You can definitely just run a TRS -> XLR cable straight into a snake. You'll probably need to adjust the global output settings to be line level instead of instrument level. I'm actually planning to run my effects send into the snake and bought an appropriate TRS -> stereo XLRs cable to do that. My main output will run to my amp. In my preset, I did a split and put the GK model on the B channel, then set the B channel's output to be Send instead of merging back into the A channel. That's different from using a send/return block and it's great because the routing doesn't use up one of the six blocks.
I use a few stand alone pedals. I like the OD and fuzz on the HX but this allows for more blocks to be open and I like the dirt pedals I already had. The VTDI is for my amp sim. I use an SVT and either an 810 or 212 with my originals band and I can't stand plain DI tone.
So many folks seem to have a board like this. Do you find it efficient? When I want to travel light I use a clip on tuner, drop my DI on the floor. In that case I leave my pedal board at home.
I don't mean to put you on the spot truly curious if it makes a difference in set up time or convenience?
I've thought about a clip on tuner and a DI, but I have the IEM box and this Nano board is almost as easy as dropping a DI on the floor and using a clip on tuner. I like the quick mute option as well.
I use the board for church and cover.

No problem. And "replace a few pedals" is really where the Stomp shines. It's limited to six "blocks", so it can't replace a large board the way a full-on Helix can. But if your needs are just a few pedals, it does that job spectacularly.thank you so much, very informative. So HX Stomp can easily replace the few pedals I own, I'm glad I don't have more pedals
I am thinking about adding an ambience pedal of some sort to use with my Rob Allen Mouse - any suggestions?
One... or both of these
would work great.. I have them in the classifieds as I type.. they sound fantastic for bass

I bought a Zoom MS 60 B for that purpose. I have yet to figure out how to use it, lol, or what it is capable of, so I can't comment on that. But it has a ton of potential.
