Yes, the Helix family can take IRs. The Stomp is limited to six blocks, so an amp and an IR will eat up two of those, which obviously doesn't leave a lot of room for other effects. You can use an amp with the stock cabs as one block, but the stock bass cabs don't sound great, IMO. The Helix really comes alive with good third party IRs.

Take a look at the HX Effects. It sounds more like what you are looking for. And, coincidentally, I have a practically new one in the classifieds at a significant discount.

Also worth noting, the HX Stomp has a stereo effects loop. Stomp owners seem to be using that a lot if they have a favorite dirt box or chorus or filter or whatever. You can insert the effects send and return anywhere in the list of blocks, so you can significantly shrink your pedalboard with a Stomp even if you're using outboard effects.

The biggest thing is that six-block limitation. If you don't use a lot of effects, it can be just fine. If you do, seriously consider stepping up to the LT.

Think of it like this--the Helix or Helix LT is a large pedalboard and amp in the size of a small pedalboard. The HX Stomp is a small pedalboard and amp in the size of a pedal.

The EQD Avalanche Run has been on there for almost a year now and it’s probably gonna be my end all reverb/delay. It just does what I need so well.

The Buzz will stay until the v2 gets to me. I was able to play them side by side at NAMM, and the v2 sounds exactly the same at its core but has a few more options added to shape the tone a little more in detail.

Meatbox, OC-2, and duality have all been on my board forever. The Ditto I’ll most likely keep at home for Demo use only, and replace that spot with a comp or something.

Currently using the MXR iso brick but plan on taking that out for home demo use only and replacing it with the strymon power supplies. The ideal plan is to have both an RNDI at home and one for live use, as well as an Olympic for each as well. Doing demos as much as I have been it’s really be nice to have a dedicated setup with a looper, power supply, and DI so I don’t have to tear stuff apart just to test and make videos.

Yep, basically a pad for bass. With the volume pedal off I’ll play a note or chord and slowly swell it on using the the AR for reverb and repeats. The ‘tone’ knob or whatever it’s proper name is is nice since it allows to have a warmer fuller repeat sound so the chatachter and bottom end of the bass resonates, but you could also trim off that low end and use it for a lighter feel.

It’s a great pedal for having both reverb and delay, with tap tempo, and I required a pedal to have trails enabled as well. It even has presets and a bunch of other features o don’t even use often, but are fun to play with at home.

I don’t.

Production brought these in the keep our pedalboards our of the camera shots. Something changed on their lighting borders and where the boards are placed they are now being lit when the pastor is on stage. IMO it is so far back in the shot I don’t think it makes a big deal, but really I don’t care either way. I just want to play my bass haha

HX Stomp replaced my Darkglass Vintage Ultra and Neunaber Iconoclast (before that Torpedo CAB). I also use it for bass and guitar on a small board with 3 other pedals (bass drive, guitar drive, Neunaber Slate with EXP in the loop for an auxiliary effect that takes a block but almost not DSP).

I'd recommend either using amp+cab block to free up as many blocks as possible, or to use an amp block plus IR or dual cab if you want a bigger sound and are willing to lose out on some effects. I'm actually experimenting with a crossover setup with an SVT and 8x10 IR handling lows and Hiwatt DR100 and 4x12 w/Fanes handling the highs. Still getting it dialed in and that patch only has compression.

I have another patch with sub octave, compression, drive (to go on top of my Vintage Microtubes that I kept around), and chorus. That's more than I use in most services and it's as good a tone as I've gotten from any of my other gear direct gear prior.

In regards to guitar stuff it's a bit tougher because I really like combining guitar amps and mixing cabs, and that doesn't leave many blocks for reverb and delay. The good news is that 1 block of delay and 1 block of reverb can be enough to go from barely there for space, to typical P&W lead or rhythm wetness, to ambient swells using Snapshots. Swells do sound better with more delays and reverbs however, and stacked delay sounds are pretty common nowadays as well so I generally limit my self to either an amp+cab block, or 2 amp+cab blocks (sometimes this causes me to run out of DSP before the block limit).

Hey thanks everyone for the advice on the Helix. Sounds like I need to start stocking the piggy bank for some new gear. Still up in the air on the stomp vs fx vs the lt. I really don’t use that many effects and but don’t really “need” an amp for straight bass and acoustic so i need to go and play around with a few of these to figure it out

I went through that same struggle, since I don't use effects on my bass in worship. The Stomp turned out to be right for me, because what I *do* want is the amp modeling to send to tape. That ruled out the Effects, and there was no reason to go all the way to an LT to get more effects blocks I'm not going to use.

It would be different if I played guitar, the Stomp might be too limiting there.
