Worship Bass Pedalboards

Just a question – do any of you folks feel that the bass comes in 1) too early and 2) too low in modern worship songs?
I've lost track of how many Hillsongs where the bass just thunders in low whilst all the other instruments are still playing dynamically light and high.

Maybe it's a style thing. I tend to save my low notes for the bigger dynamic moments and play up the neck until later in the song. My gigging background has a lost of Post-Rock/Post-Metal so I like to keep the power of the bass ready for huge moments but noticed that if I play along note-for-note with most worship songs, they let the cat out of the bag pretty much straight away.

I'm questioning my approach a little – is there something I'm not giving the congregation by saving those notes still what I think is a more dynamically appropriate time?

I think it's totally a stylistic choice, and also simplistic by design.

That being said, I totally feel you. I find myself wamting to diddle around with the high registers early on...then go low to build. Sounds like a Great plan, but that wasn't how it was written. I'm just tired of the same boring, droning bass. It's like it's written to just be carried by the keyboard, but they just feltlike having bass just to have another person. End jaded rant.

View attachment 3405893 Got the Caverns and a couple other new pedals. I actually like the reverb side quite a bit! But I don't see delay as something I'll be using ever so it'll be finding a new home.
Can anyone recommend a reverb pedal with topjacks? Preferably one that has the option to choose between spring, plate, and room.

I really like it! It's my more mid grind driven sound. Used it on King of Majesty on Sunday. Lot's of range in the gain stage. I used to use it as my clean sound, but raised the gain since I got the Super Stack. I have yet to go past noon on it tho.

Maybe honky is a better word? It cuts through!

I briefly considered it to get more of a full set sound, but ended up ordering an Eden glowplug.

The only other I'd be interested trying is the utility knife. Future gas for sure.

I've contemplated the UK for the chorus... but that's quite a bit of cash for a pedal I would only use 1/4th of!

How do you like the spectra comp? What toneprint are you using? I have a hard time figuring out where to put it in my pedal chain because the inherent boost in gain for most of the toneprints tends to make my drive pedals too fart heavy.
