Ordered a Rupert Neve RNDI tonight. Looking forward to testing it out. A lot of people I respect and look up to seem to rave about it.
I shared this a few other places. I recently made some big changes to my pedalboard.
Peterson StroboStomp HD -> Empress Bass Compressor -> COG Effects T-16 -> Damnation Audio MBD2 -> Aguilar Tone Hammer DI, all powered by a Cioks DC7 underneath. I’m very happy with the sounds and functionality of this board. This weekend I have a gig (loud band, using an amp) and a worship service (using IEM’s), so I’ll be able to put this board through its paces.

I really like this set up. All the essentials IMO (DI/EQ + Overdrive + Octave + Compressor) and good examples at each spot.

Always wondered what the MBD2 was like.
The MBD2 is a very good overdrive/distortion. I also have a Free the Tone “Bass Blaster” that I really like, but it’s a very mild, low-gain overdrive. I wanted to try something slightly more aggressive and dirty, and the MBD2 fits that well.Great looking setup. I love the Tone Hammer.

The MBD-2 is fantastic and can cover a wide range of gain/dirt
does it seem to retain the sub low end (40hz) very well? My main issue searching for overdrives
It actually does lows/sub-lows better than any overdrive I’ve heard. It has a “depth” knob that boosts more of the low-end into the signal. The pedal naturally has such good low-end, that I run that depth knob all the way off.

Yep in fact, I often have to dial down the Depth knob because it has TOO MUCH lows.

And ditto what others said about the lows..
SOOOO THICK! I barely have the DEPTH cracked open and it's crazy deep..

Those of you using a standalone-type DI (meaning its not built in to another pedal) --
Do you mount it on your board or have it on the side? Trying to decide what I want to do for my RNDI. Part of me thinks it would be more flexible to have it off if I need to use it sans-pedalboard but I also wonder if I should just mount it on the board for ease of setup. Thoughts?

How do you feel it compares with the Locust Star?
Apologies if I've asked this before....
I had one for awhile...it’s not super pb friendly. One end of the enclosure doesn’t lend itself to right angle plugs, and it’s fairly heavy (compared to most pedals)...

I think it is more versatile than the Locust Star personally. I had a LS and sold it because of the MBD-2. One day I will revisit the LS just to see if I missed something, but, I felt like the MBD-2 just had more sounds/scenarios in it.
This is the second time I’ve owned the MBD2. The first time, I foolishly only tried it for 10 minutes at home, and then returned it. Now that I’ve taken the time to dial it in and actually hear it in a band mix, it’s a winner.
