I've never played any version of a Rat..
Read some of my previous posts about the MBD2.. listening to videos don't do it justice... I absolutely hated the sound on video... I didn't understand all the love for it...

All I wanted was my bass.. Lakland Skyline Duck Dunn... but dirtier and gritty..

Guys on here popped up and said..Yes!! It'll easily do that.. and then some..
Well, very shortly after that, one came up in the classifieds... so I scooped it up..

Honestly, first impression were far from pleasing... I reached out to users here for a user manual...
Luckily, @ExaltBass ..Dave had one, he sent a photo..
After trying a couple of samples, some minor tweaks, I hit gold... it's absolutely amazing!!
I got my bass, just dirtier and gritty..

Low end loss??? NO WAY, MAN..
The ability to add your Clean, coupled with the DEPTH knob it can be bone crushing thick.. if you want that.

I push up a bit of the Clean, and just barely bring up the Depth.. sometimes I leave the Depth off and it's just crazy full, thick, and juicy..
Even with the Gain down low it's very full and thick with the use of the Clean and Depth.
Oh, and the Mid switch... you can scoop it, or pop it up.. I prefer it up.. it's really nice the amount of control this box has.

All you guys have got me really thinking about biting the bullet on a MBD2...

It really is that good. Believe the hype. Don't just listen to the Youtube videos, because those sounded awful to me. It's incredibly flexible and powerful. And yes, you'll likely be able to sell it here in less than an hour if you don't like it. I only sold mine because I was able to get my hands on a Tech21 YYZ again after stupidly selling it once. And once I got the MBD-2 dialed in to where I liked it, it really sounded almost identical to the YYZ, which is a little more my tone of choice. But the MBD-2 is sooooo good.

Well, all the chatter and I finally caved. Bought the demo from Prymaxe. Hopefully you guys are right! Maybe you all can share some of your settings to get me started when it arrives....

I commented on it somewhere a while back. Not sure if it was this thread or not. I would suggest starting with the suggested settings in the manual. When I first got it I twiddled the knobs for a while but was really unhappy with what was coming out of it. Trying to kind of figure it out on my own was NOT working. But once I dialed in a few of the suggested settings, I started to understand better how the controls interacted, and it really opened things up for me.

I am currently running a OneSpot daisy chain on my board and am looking to upgrade to an isolated power supply. I can’t go too expensive, but also don’t want to “cheap out.” Any suggestions for a decent power supply with a minimum of 5 spots?

The Cioks DC7 and Eventide Powermax are highly recommended around these parts. But a bit pricier. It all depends on what you need and what you're willing to spend. Do you only need 9v outlets? There are some cheaper options. But if you want some flexibility, the Cioks is king. I've used an MXR Iso-Brick (10 outlets with some voltage options) for a long while now with no issues. And if you outgrow the 10 outlets, you can even run a daisy chain off of one more more of them, as long as you don't exceed the mA total of the individual outlet.

Ooh I really like the USB option on the cioks and evantide. But they really look like the same power supply with different names and a $20 difference

The Cioks and Eventide are pretty much identical in all ways but one--all seven of the the Cioks' outputs have switchable voltage, while only four of the Eventide's are switchable. (The other three are fixed at 9V.) That's what the $20 difference is.

I think the USB is for chaining other Cioks units together. But I could be wrong. The Eventide is made by Cioks and is almost identical, except that it is slightly less flexible. Three of the outlets are not switchable, though all of the Cioks are.
