Out of curiosity, how many of you use a clean boost on your boards that get sent to FOH via a DI?
I may give the HX Stomp a try for my leave at church board. It’s working for the guitar player, I bet it can work for bass, too. It’s easy (once it’s set) and plenty of people use them. Fits the budget, too. Less chords. Less mess.
So many talk about the Hx stomp. Starting to get me curious!
Yeah. Me too. And now that the guitar player at church has one and it’s working out fine, it’s even more tempting to just do the same for bass.
I was daunted by the price, but then I tallied up what's currently on my board. That's not a bad deal, just a bigger budget-bite!
That’s what sold me too. For all the pedals I’d use, I’d easily spend just as much. Also, this way I can experiment with different amps and effects and never buy more pedals. Line 6 does a great job adding new stuff with firmware updates periodically.
My REDDI alone costs more than an HX Stomp or even the XL version. Like I said, I think I’m gonna give the Stomp a try. It’s working for the guitar player so…
Not going to make the church buy one as it’s too much money and overkill, but if I like the Stomp I might give the Quad Cortex a look for my cover band needs.
Just received another QC this week…
I’d purchased (and returned) one, out of the initial batch. Further firmware refinement (imo) has improved the pedal significantly, and there’s many more helpful YT videos available.
I must admit, it’s shifting my paradigm of digital. Crazy easy (iPhone-esque) to navigate, and the I/O options are incredible. Obtained a usable bass tone in a few minutes, without reading the quick start guide. Super pricy…but I’m definitely keeping this one.
Personal goal…NOT to use additional pedals (except volume/expression-type)…after a few days with it, I think it’s very possible. Used it amp-less thru my own PA system today (which is stored at home)…v-e-r-y pleasing results!
I had an HX Stomp for a very short while…just couldn’t intuitively navigate thru it (my brain and HX protocol, didn’t seem to match
) To be fair, I gave up quickly/didn’t spend much time with it, due to MY lack of patience. Not doubting that it’s a great option…I just didn’t persevere.

oddly - I had an hx stomp and found it to be a very short learning curve…
I then fiddled with a full size helix in a shop and found it less intuitive! Prob just me though
View attachment 4843283 I finally think I’ve settled on my church board. Harmonic booster for clean (always on), B7K for grit (on 75% of the time), bass synth (for big synthy bridges). Worked awesome!
I think I'm going to pull the trigger and have the church buy an HX Stomp as our "leave at church" bass DI. Get a 1/4" TS to Male XLR adapter/cable and I should be good to go.
I'll see how that goes and then evaluate if I want to make a big change for my personal rig for the cover band.

A couple of my friends who have the HX Stomp ended up having to get a line isolator for it to work well at church. While I am not exactly sure what was wrong before, I know they all ended up getting one.
You will have to give us your thoughts after you have had one for a while.
Thinking about picking up one of these to silent the FOH engineers complains about my signal being to quiet and them having to gain it up to high heavy. While very pricy, has a cool story.

There are a lot of great boosts out there. I highly recommend the Broughton BBA. It just makes everything sound better . . . and louder: https://www.broughtonaudio.com/product-page/bba
Or better yet, a HPF/LPF with boost. Really tightens up your sound in a way similar to the BBA (but adjustable for frequency cutoff), with adjustable gain. https://www.broughtonaudio.com/product-page/low-high-pass-filter
