I use a B7KU...

I have a Vintage Microtubes pedal but I mainly use it when playing my ES-335 or the Taylor SB-2. I don't have a guitar amp - just buffer the guitar signal through the VMT for some grit. At church for bass I had plenty of that from the amp, didn't need anything else.

Do the newer tone hammers still have the heating up and sounding bad issues?

News to me. Maybe others are running them 9V when they are meant for 18? Dunno....In a world of high-end tube and fancy-dancy preamp DI's this thing continues to slay in our church mixes without being brash, both AGS on or off. Love mine!

I had one about 6 years ago for a few months. It would sound great but after an hour or so it would sound like it was getting weak and start losing headroom and distorting. Maybe mine was just a lemon but I've read where others had that issue as well.

The TC Electronics SpectraDrive is a nice, easy to use pre. It has Drive (or boost) and Compression on board. I used one for a long time and loved it! And it has a nice clean DI.

Do the older ones have that issue? I have two of them. Mine are both the older models with the lip that sticks out on the back that make is difficult to get the angled connectors to work. I never noticed either one of them having a tone change during a set. Rarely play more than 4 songs at church or 10 for a special event though. But did use it once in August for an outside event where it was crazy hot with the sun shining on it. Never noticed a change in tone.

For what it is worth: the times I get the best compliments on my bass tone was when I ran a nice compressor into a subtle drive and then straight into a DI.

I think that’s why the BDDI has worked so well for so long. It has compression and cab sim built into the analog circuitry. I’m tempted to dig mine out again for nostalgia.

Cool setup! How are you liking the Bassrig compared to the tonehammer? Are you using Bassrig to get some grind? Were you using the AGS circuit on the tonehammer?

I like the bassrig. It’s darker and more vintage. Our church style is a little more pocket now so I don’t need as aggressive of a sound. You can still get enough attack on tweed mode though.

So this week I have watched a multitude of videos until click fatigue has set in...weary of the hunt I decided I needed to try something, see if I like it & go from there.

I considered the Tone Hammer, the Microtubes B7k Ultra, Tech 21 VBass & on the upper end the HX Stomp.

Ultimately I decided to order the Two Notes ReVolt Bass pedal. I liked the fact that there are separate volume knobs for the clean & drive channels (previous comments about the AGS circuit noted here). Also liked having seperate tone controls between the channels, with actual, simple knobs. It helps that Sweetwater had an open box special for $40 off.

So if I'm lucky & FedEx tracking is to believed - it should arrive tomorrow afternoon & I'll give it its first trial run on Sunday morning.

After I live with it for a while I'll create a review.

So worth it if you are looking for a top quality pre/DI with some awesome features, yet is very user friendly check this one out!

How do you like the PC-2A? Don't see many other users besides myself. I like mine. Your setting seems.....squishy I have my PR at around 8 or 9 o clock and gain just a tad higher than that.

I set my PR usually between 9-10 o’clock (mostly 9) but prefer the gain knob around 12 o’clock, too. To my ear, the (higher-set) gain knob improves the dynamics of my bass signal. If I’ve got too much signal gain, I’ll adjust something else. I hear a ‘liveliness’ the PC-2A seems to add at that higher gain>>SP (entire pb always-on)…

That's about right. If the room's acoustics are friendly, I'll set mine at around 9:30 for PR and 11:30 for Gain. If the room is overly reverbant, I'll often flip it to Limiter mode and push the PR more in the 10:30 range. Love my 'Trodes - great pedals!

I have been really impressed with the PC-2A! I tend to run a fairly ‘squishy’ signal since we are feeding a live stream signal.

I considered the Berg Super Pre before buying the ReVolt. My concern was that, like the HX Stomp, it's heavily menu driven, so not as easy to adjust quickly. At least that's how it seemed to me based on the video clips I watched. I don't get much time for setup before we actually start to play &/or rehearse.
Pretty much everyone else in the band just plugs straight into the house with not even so much as a tuner / mute pedal.

First run with the ReVolt went more or less OK I suppose. I'm fairly new with pedals in general, I generally just use a tuning mute

I'm not on again for a month - I declined to play Easter - so my window to return it will have elapsed before I'm scheduled to play again.
