Worship Bass Pedalboards

I've had to run DI/IEM in the past, but our current church is not very old, so I get to run through all my "stuff" into my amp. In the past at our large church, I would use a line 6 Bass POD XT Live, but I would still go DI through the house.
I have designed my current pedalboard with a DI/IEM plug setup for the future and plan on installing the actual DI under the bottom portion of the pedalboard.

Don't need much at church. I run post-eq DI from my tone hammer amp that has enough baked in drive that I don't need drive pedal. The Spectracomp really helps thicken my sound and gives it some punch in the 30 year old PA system. Overall 50/50 amp/pa through a 210 on stage.

I took my compressor off a couple weeks ago. I found that I didn't need it...or had it set wrong. Either way I sounded about the same with or without it so KISS wins.

Looking at the pic wolf fire posted I suppose I could go even more simple if I got rid of my tuner pedal and used a clip on tuner of some kind. We go DI/IEM so I turn down my volume when not playing. Can still tune with no volume with a clip on Snark or something. Then I'd just have the DI and my IEM receiver on my board. Wouldn't even need a Nano for that. I could go with something like wolffire99 has.

I love my PS6. I use it for superbend weirdness, but the chorus is definitely underrated. Actually now that I think of it, I really need to dive into that pedal and use it for more than weird bass bombs and superbend ups. Everything it does sounds good.

Yeah I didn't get the ps6 for the chorus, but for the harmony features, but the chorus sounds really good

It wasn't that I didn't like them, they are both good compressors. The selling point for both the Diamond and the Smoothie for me, the tone control, was actually the thing I didn't like the most. I thought I'd love it. I heard a reviewer say that he went inside the Diamond and disconnected the tone circuit and it opened up the sound a lot more. (Most people love the tone circuit and I'm not knocking it) And, I recently discovered closing the tone on passive basses (I'm a long time active bass guy).

I also thought I'd love the Smoothie because the blend is a big deal to me. In the end, I just like the response and the tone of the Accountant the best; it went back in the chain and it felt like home again, pulling into your driveway after a really long road trip.

I know that 'home' feeling, and how hard it is to describe to others.

I feel a long compressor seeking journey ahead of me. I am awaiting my Darkglass Super Symmetry (again) as I sold my first one and immediately wanted it back. I love the sound it gives off, it takes the highs a bit but it pairs wonderfully with their BxK series that are super bright. It also makes my higher thin strings sound thick, and my lower strings sound tight. It's my 'home' although I have tried any other compressor besides the Conpressore (which I don't remember hating it, but at the time I didn't fully understand compression so I don't know that I liked it or not) and the Joyo Dyna comp which I didn't like.

So now I see demos of the Accountant which I love, especially the breakup it gives. And then there's the Diamond which I have seen on a lot of players boards lately even though I always knew about them, it's just been lately I've been seeing them everywhere and it gets me curious. I know it's specifically loved for its 'tone magic' but I don't hear that through demos that I've found so all I have is people's opinions really and Ovnilab of course.

I know there's a million more, but I think I am specifically going down the road of 'dirty' or tone shaping comps.

On my secular board (usually with an active bass) I really like my vintage MIJ Boss CS-2. Juan Aldrete turned me on to these. They do take away a bit of low end, but it "sparkles" up the tone in a very desirable way. Its "always on" so I don't care that it's not true bypass. Right now my favorite 2 are the Accountant and the CS-2.

Another comp I really like (and sold) was the Xotic XP. I set it on the highest ratio, but only blended the wet signal in about 25% (I love blends on comps). It really fattened up the low end, evened out the notes over the full range, and didn't feel "restricting" or "squashy" because so much dry signal was blended in. Recommended if you're going on a compressor binge, can be had for relatively cheap too.

I have been through quite a few compressors and Ovnifx's Smoothie has been my personal favorite....by far. In my opinion, the amazing possible settings are "huuuuuge"......

My "Compressor history".....:
