Worship Bass Pedalboards

This one's a keeper. Thursday night service I wasn't so sure. The sound guy that evening loves the dirty bass channel on the digital board and kicks up the eq about 4k to hear more finger noise. It sounds awful in IEMs. Today the other sound guy turned off the dirty channel to let the natural bass come through. It sounded glorious. Full and punchy. I may run this for a bit before going back to the Stomp. I won't get rid of it, it's too easy for when I actually need effects. The board for now:

have you talked to the sound crew about blending both channels with a LPF on the clean channel set to 150hz-ish? That should give you the punch you're talking about plus your "dirty" flavor.

If it were me, I'd talk to the worship pastor about how giving untrained sound guys that kind of control is not beneficial to the service. Then I'd set the mix, crossover, and eq myself and tell the sound crew to stick to volume adjustments only. If you have trained or professional sound crew it's much different.

This isn't the untrained volunteer. This is the paid guy in charge of sound. He just really likes dirty bass tone on everything. I'm the volunteer, so I just show up and play. Just venting, nothing can be changed.

I get "...Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you..." and all, but to be completely fair.... by Christ's very own example fabricating a whip and running the dude out of the church with it isn't entirely out of the question.... Just sayin'. ;)

I would think changing the bass monitor signal to the clean channel only would be an easy to change at the board.

i've been there too, man. Paid sound guy whose taste in sound I did not appreciate. To top it off he seemed to dislike me for some reason. Eventually his "quirks" got him replaced though.

They pulled out the dirty channel this morning at the board and I swear it improved the IEM mix even though I had the dirty channel zeroed out in the mixer group.

I had this same issue for years with my sound guy. He ran a high pass around 150 hz and then added a lot of dirt to the bass. Every Sunday I wasn't playing I couldn't hear any bass in the mix whatsoever. I brought it up multiple times and we figured out he didn't know how to turn the subs on and they usually weren't on when was mixing. You can teach someone how to work a sound board, but you can't teach a good ear.
