It's addictive.

For a similar swell, but much lower note effect, try Synth Strings. Set speed at .1 or .2, Freq at 0. It swells in textured low notes. A little goes a long way. Sounds very Synth when playing it solo, but blended in a track is pretty cool, bass-pedal'ish. I'm using it one the outro of one song.

It might just be they don't vibe with the sound of your specific worship band. Nothing wrong with that. Go with your ears, if it doesn't sound good then don't force it.

Bryce Vaughn does a good job on his instagram of explaining when and how he uses pitch and modulation effects.

Also, eq comes even more into play - on the bass, on the amp, and possibly on your board between effects (as you add more). If your tone is bass heavy, modulation effects can easily turn to mud or be very subtle. Try backing off the bass a bit and or bumping up mids and highs.

Definitely play with your EQ. Dial back the Lows, boost the low mids, tweak your high mids and highs to taste.

I also recommend looking into adding a Broughton Low Pass + High Pass Filter. It can help dial out the mud & problematic high frequencies, allowing you to boost the right frequencies with your EQ that would typically result in HF noise, or boominess.

Another thing to consider is running a parallel path for your drives and effects. A Boss LS-2, Broughton FFXL, or Damnation Loop Blender.

I was surprised at how many effects are on worship tracks. Since I have access to the isolated tracks, I start by emulating the original recording. Do you have access to MultiTracks and the isolated bass parts? I hear a lot of overdrive, from mild to pretty full. There are a few songs with synths that I use an octave (no dry) pedal for. A few with chorus. My approach is to only use effects when the song calls for it.
I was never a pick player, but there is something so nice about an overdriven pick tone. I'm starting to really like it and I'm now working on my pick technique. The attack is different. Maybe it would be less muddy for you with a pick?

I just went one size bigger on my board. My smaller board was super cramped, but now I have all these spots to fill. Haha. I won't add something just to add something. I'll probably just leave them blank until something comes a long, but I am thinking about a wireless and a higher gain OD or distortion. Other than that, this board covers everything that I need.

i have the feeling I'm soon going to be thinking the same. My tiny board is absurdly (seriously) crammed with pedals right now and I will finally be doing a size upgrade in the not-too-distant future.

You and me both. Never thought I'd be playing a 4 string p with a pick and overdrive as often as I am now.

I've noticed this too. But then our teams tend to play a more polite version of the songs and I have to dial back to aggressive tones. When we have a solid drummer who likes to hit hard then those tones are bliss.

It is an Emerson board. PEDALBOARDS
There are a number of them on Reverb. I really like the routing options. It's a clean looking board when everything has a hole to pass the wiring through. There are also a few modules available. Mine has a dual AC power module that has one IEC and a power switch.

We did House of the Lord a few weeks ago. After we were finished, the drummer, who does all the tracks, said that there was a synth bass that he didn't remove and asked the WL if he should remove it. It was actually me playing with the octave pedal.
I am having a lot of fun exploring effects in this context.

Those are nice! Remind me of some of the usability that Temple boards have, but with more pretty.

mine has a couple of pedals hanging off and my wiring is not routed cleanly at all because I plan on upgrading and don't want to take the time. I'm sure it would make a lot of people here nauseous to look at. :D

that's hilarious. I've also been exploring getting something like a synth sound with octave + overdrive.
