They're great too, it does its job very well! but being an out of context situation with no rig, no full band mix no nothing, the khan and noble were in a different league. Especially when it comes to dB levels the board has to compensate for. With the khan and noble, 30+ dB could be subtracted so there's a huge gain difference.

also, no one but us could tell. People might be able to feel it in the room but would have no idea what it was.

It's clarity is a big part of my preference with it as well.... Pre-Khan I played through an Avalon for years. Then the Khan came along & added tube warmth to that clarity and bumped the Avalon from its priority positioning.

That and I really don't like anything that scoops mids at all. I like my mids & if anything I'll take a slight EQ frown over a smiley any day!

I used an MBD2 for a while as an always on OD. It's really great. You can dial in a fairly flat eq, or use with a scoop which is how it was apparently intended.

Tried the DCX for a minute, but, didn't care for it and returned it. The MBD2 was much smoother.

The CAPO kicked the MBD2 and my BBBOD off my board. You can dial the A side pretty darn close to the MBD2 with a 600hz scoop. I found that the B side could get close to the vintage-ey mid forward OD of the BBBOD. The OD from the CAPO is just great…I wouldn't have much use for it as a clean pre or even DI, even though others seem to prefer it that way. The secret sauce is in the gain knob, IMO. I also use the B side as a dirty boost for big Bridges and Choruses.

I bought back my CAPO and second time around I'm liking it even more. Here is a potential pedal lay-out that sounds really good with four levels of drive (DCX clean, CAPO Side A saturated, Side B for RAT OD, Calamity for Big Muff).

The Calamity (Big Muff) + Subsonic (OC-2) gets 80% close to the EHX Bass MicroSynth Bethel sound, saves space, is more under control, and provides more stomping options. I'm still in the return window for the MicroSynth.....

The three mini-pedals might go on a small 6"x4" cutting board as a signal pre-conditioning arrangement off to the side.

MikoFX turned me onto the Dispatch Maker for reverb/delay. I love modulation effects for softer sections and this one is a great utility device. He has one for sale, someone in the worship board group should get it!

I'm using Side B for that purpose. Some use Side B for mild amp warmth/drive, higher setting can do full saturation, some use it as a level boost into Side A to saturate that side more. Right now, I like the simplicity of a unity gain RAT stomp using Side B. I can make Side B sound very close to the Locust Star RAT.

I find the Broughton core bass pedal trio (RAT, Big Muff, OC-2 clones) to be very well thought out and engineered. Quiet, flexible, and great tones.

Yeah I get it. This was my first venture into digital and I'm by no means a menu tweaker. But, just downloading user presets using my phone has provided a ton of possibilities. I've gone one step further and learned to make small adjustments to get them right where I like. It has great tones that avoid the need for 3 pedals or the huge EHX to get one tone. I use it outside of worship as well.

If I can do it, so can you. I promise. lol

Added a DLA-2A, Xerograph Deluxe, and El Capistan v2. The addition of the DLA-2A means that I can't fit the board in my Mono Small bag, so I also added a custom case from mycasebuilder.

I was thinking about picking up a db meter to match outputs for my pedals. Is this what you use it for? Would that be a good idea? And then fine tune it by ear?

I am assuming that you love the comp? I can tell it sounds good, just by looking at it.

That's exactly what I use the mini-VUMP for.

I just returned from a business trip so I've had about 2 hours total with the DLA-2A. I took off tomorrow to prep for Easter, so I'm planning to take the board up to the church and dial it in though the PA.

(I ran sound for about 20 years and just recently transitioned to back to bass full-time. I'm pretty fortunate to be able to still test things out on my own without having to call in a sound guy).
