Worship Bass Pedalboards

As the preamp world turns, our pedal Sherpa, MikoFX, came across this interesting preamp, the Mother Preamp. He ended up with two of the these, made from unobtainium, and we recently worked out a trade and I am now the happy owner of one.

Fiddling at home, I quickly warmed up to the unit. It has two channels. Cleanish and dirt. The thing reminds me very much of the Origin BassRig with a lovely amp sim tone. But better tone shaping for a variety of sounds. Having a stomp-able drive side is especially nice and better than the BassRig. The drive tone is splendid. The unit is replacing my beloved DCX Bass and Locust Star drive pedal. First use this weekend.

One great thing about this is the price at $299. Thats like half the price of a BassRig or CAPO. Anyhow it's been in very short supply, but I just noticed a couple of dealers have them on Reverb right now for $299.

As an owner of the CAPO, Bassrig, DCX Bass and Tone Hammer, the Mother Preamp rates way up there and may be worth a spot on your worship board.

There is one glitch to mention - that is the lovely fully countered direct out has no bypass. The footswitch is a mute control. The other 1/4" output is intended to run into a bass amp, has less contouring, but does have a bypass mode.

This is referred to as a gain structure, and no ear is necessary to initially get a setting since it is a light. This is the most fundamental thing to running sound. It can't be too strong (clipping) or too low (can't get a signal). This is the most overlooked (and most important) thing I see at churches (lots of times because the IEM volume is set to be controlled by the gain). Next step I'd take before buying any new gear is ensuring your pickup height is set correctly. But, until the gain structure is set effectively, all else is in vain.

Thank you - I was starting to suspect this. I know everyone is volunteering their time, and to be frank, I didn't have a clue to what the issue could be so this gives me something to look at. I'm still eyeballing a DI with XLR out but I probably cant justify it - either way I was going to build up a small worship pedal board like so:

Pod Express Bass into Bass EQ Pedal into BDI21 into PA
The Pod Express has just enough quality to the effects that I feel like it should be more than good enough for the purpose

I bit!

I was really gunning for the Capo, but now I'm intrigued by the Mother Preamp.

Looking forward to trying it out!

You really can't go wrong with either, but the Mother is truly a fantastic Preamp. Fewer bells and whistles than the CAPO, but also half the price. If you don't need the CAPO's routing options the Mother is a brilliant choice.
