Spent a few minutes with the Mother pre. It has a lot of great tones in it. I have the A side dialed in nicely. I have to mess around with the B side and then figure out how to balance the eq between what I’d want from both.
I am playing at a woman’s conference tomorrow at church. We are doing 8 songs. I’ll be working on those through the evening. Tomorrow, I’ll probably just go with what’s wired up on the board instead of A/Bing another drive pedal.

Haha. I had typed out something like ‘I won’t have time to mess around with the Mother’ and then thought it sounded strange so I deleted it, but apparently decided to post it here anyway. Haha.

I’ve been seeing the name EAE in collaboration with a lot of pedals. The Mother, one of the 1981 pedals and I forget where else. Then 1981 also has something going on with Bondi. It’s interesting.

The depth and absence controls are very nice. It's a great preamp. I was telling MikoFX that it has the Origin BassRig amp vibe going very nicely, but better controls and a B-drive side, at half the price. Are you using the Direct Out? That output is voiced very pleasingly.

I tried both outputs for a bit. I did like the direct out, but, yeah, it’s weird that there is no bypass—just a mute. I liked the tone—is that what a cab sim would sound like??

They say the Bass Amp output lacks the contouring of the Direct Out based on the assumption that the Bass Amp does its own contouring (push bass and treble) so the Mother's Bass Amp out has much less low end. You could add EQ pre/post to accommodate, but as a solo box the Direct Out is the "correct" output as I understand it.

I’ve been experimenting with a drive first - compression last signal chain since getting the DCX and it sounds really good. Putting another drive in front of the dcx imparts both its touch sensitivity and eq onto both drives. Maybe because the vmt is 50/50 blended. Can’t exactly explain how it’s working but it’s the best drive sounds I’ve ever gotten.

Yea, that's the case. But, it's a non-issue for me as I (and a few others I know who have the Mother) prefer the Output over the Direct Out.

With that said, there are some things to consider about my board that may be influencing that:

I'm running a Nobelium, a Broughton Resonant Filter Equalizer, and a Darkglass Element after the Mother.
Each of those allow me to adjust EQ, and the Element is an Amp & Cab Sim as well.

I played with it a bit tonight. Still have a lot of exploring to do. It’s a bit like the 1981 LVL in some settings…though the Mother is much much more versatile.

Interchangeable, for the most part. I didn’t notice much difference through the in ears and in the house the short time I went out during sound check.
Of course, as you know, I don’t use the lower knobs on the Grizzly.

I’m a fan of drive first too. It allows it to react to your playing and it makes a big difference in some situations.

Empress Bass Compressor > Mother > MBD-2 > SushiBox Finally vs2

Not a big distortion guy (especially for church settings!), so I used channel A for a cleanish sound and channel B for increased dirt / boost. FOH may have a kerfuffle about that...oh well.

The MBD-2 added a fuller sound (a smidge more dirt, but more presence).

Looking forward to continued experimentation with the Mother pre!
