Worship Bass Pedalboards

Hoping to get some feedback. Here is our service from today, we did 4 songs before the sermon and 1 after.


Not terribly happy with my tone. I think it sounds a bit farty, not sure if that is the best way to describe it. I played my Reverend Dub King today with my hand a little closer to the bridge than I normally do. Below is a pic of my board(don’t mind the cable mess, I’m still changing things) looking for some advice on settings. Mainly used the cali 76 and Sansamp with the Big Booty Judy for heavier parts and I used the Kaamos for the first time towards the end of the 3rd song.

I think it’s overly compressed, so either your threshold is too low on the Cali or your output is too high and it’s hitting the sansamp a little hard (sound more like this for me)

So I’d check your gain staging, I imagine it will sound fine at home but then with a little bit of adrenaline on the gig you play harder.

I boost the bass a touch on the sansamp and consider reducing the gain (but if the output of the compressor is reduced a touch this might balance out)

By no means does it sound bad but definitely feels like it’s hitting a brick wall.

Used this again Sunday. Set the BMS up for proper Bethel tone and used it in the big sections of Our God as the keys player was a no show. Still had a noise issue with the Agro, since worked out it is the Crux creating noise when powering the LA-1A. very odd. Better when powering the HXS though. Removed it and went back to a split flex for a couple of pedals and all quiet.
Really happy, but the Digbeth is on long term loan. I found a great deal on an XB Driver, so that is incoming. Hopefully I am happy. 30 day returns fortunately. If I like it the Agro is on the block and i will return the Digbeth. Some of my fave analogue Preamps have been the VTBD and RPM rack. The XB apparently covers these, so I am optimistic.

How did it sound in the in ears? I would like to hear the drums louder in the online mix. I think that would bring things together nicely.

Bass sounds pretty good to me. I agree on the compression being high. Or maybe you’re just a very consistent, even player. Sean Hurley plays like that, it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

The mix is not great. It’s all acoustic and vocals which is common with beginner sound techs.

We run 2 separate boards. 1 for the house and 2 for the stream. Our house tech is phenomenal and does an amazing job mixing for the room and then our stream is done by a rotation of volunteers. It’s pretty hard to get a consistent mix from week to week, but we are working on it and it is getting better. This time last year you couldn’t hear the bass at all in the mix.

Anyone else buy the NOTADUMBLE? On my main board at home, I have a Laney Digbeth as my last in chain preamp. Wanted a cool pre and someone pulled his Humboldt from his ad before I could decide. :). Anyway excited for something different on my travel boards.

I don't play guitar, and I have always purchased bass-specific pedals when it comes to bass effects. However, I just recently discovered the whole world of all things Dumble. I know... I'm late to the game.

I have now become obsessed with collecting Dumble-style pedals. Although these are "meant" for guitar, I have found that for my personal tastes, they sound FANTASTIC on bass!! Anyone else here gone down the Dumble rabbit-hole?? If so, which ones are your favorites?

I highly recommend the UAFX Enigmatic. Again, it's "meant" for guitar, but you can make it work for bass, and it...

lol not at all man- I have never tried one so it would be experimental at best. Glad you know it works for you- and I know, unfortunately, that it will get played more than it would here. I just thought it was funny that I debated for days because- great price- and when I had finally landed at 50.00001% to buy, it was gone. (There are others but I try to buy from people I “know” in the worship threads….)

Anyway, I’m excited for my not a dumble too.

I picked up a Warm Audio Pedal76 and I'm liking it a lot. My Cali76 is out on loan, but I'll be getting it back soon to compare. I'm leaning towards the Pedal76. There are a few things that are making me lean in that direction, notably the separate attack and release knobs. I know the Cali76 has the dry blend and HPF. But, I find the Pedal76more intuitive to work with. Maybe it's just the way my brain works (or the way it doesn't work) but I find it easier to get what I want out of it. BUT--it's a much bigger pedal---a touch smaller than the BMS but taller.

I’m glad I tried the Capo but I still prefer the Tone Hammer for a preamp/drive/di combo pedal.

The Capo is a better circuit with a separate gain and level control for the second gain stage but it’s still too modern sounding for me. This may not make sense to anyone but me but the tone hammer is more amp sim-y in a good way.

I’m so sonically ignorant when it comes to drive, I either like it or not and can’t really articulate why. The fact is that in my experience, other equipment and the room and eq/ etc CAN HAVE as much impact on how drive sounds on bass as the circuit in the box does. Someone else might think the exact same thing as you but completely 180 with their setup- and you are both right. Took me a lot of drive pedals and money to get there lol
