I just played through the cab a bit before to tune the head, then went DI only, but it was nice
So, I traded a piece of gear for this cute little minty Aguilar Storm King yesterday, being very curious. It's supposedly the Tone Hammer AGS circuit in a small pedal. Since I have recently discovered how lovely the Tone Hammer DI is with AGS off, adding this little guy makes some sense. Two run throughs using multi-tracks sans bass and I definitely got the Bethel sound. The good natured gentleman over at the TB dirt journal were recently trying the Storm King on low-gain light saturation mode, with good results, as well. Next up, comparison to the Kilt.

I considered getting that one and the Aguilar DB 316 (I usually only touch the mids in the TH) and I think that would be like a tonehammer in a smaller size with more flexibility.

I tried playing without an amp for about 3 gigs. I couldn't do it. All the drummers I play with love that I use an amp and it guarantees no one can mute you in their ears. Never had a single complaint. I use a 1x12 and a Mesa Boogie TT. It can keep up with an acoustic drum kit and tastefully impact the sound stage. I've just never gotten what I need from my in ears which are 6 way custom molds. I need rumble near me. It's less fun with out any actually vibrations. Standing on one of those rumble pads also seems weird to me but I've never tried one.
I hear you. I played with loud amps for a long time, playing fusion and classic rock. Then I started playing CCM to support my church and had to adapt. Not as fun but I'm happy
You should try tactile transducers. It makes using IEM much more fun. If standing on Bassboard seems weird to you, you can try either Eich Drumchair or Backbeat. I own and use all three of them. It made made the move to IEM much more pleasant.

Well sold some pedals off and have an Anagram coming tomorrow. The roll out of plugins like entropia, increasing nam options, and ease of battery powering it sold me. Going to pair it with strobo mini and power everything with a 20k mah battery which should get me about 4 hours. Add the ability to Bluetooth my computer audio for practice in planning center I'm pretty excited.
I wondered when the Anagram's time would come for the worship scene. I saw a Bryce Vaughn demo but wasn't clear if his modules could be purchased, etc. Is it time?
It will be… he's already got a quad cortex patch/scene/whatever you wanna call it.
I been thinking about an anagram, but I have a QC and I LOVE my hx stomp. I think I may have returned to the hx stomp and khan vtdi.
I like the idea of "my sound" being a Sadowsky bass/preamp and khan and then using the stomp for chorus/octave/overdrive/reverb/etc… when necessary.

I've adjusted to iem's at church over the past few years. I've learned to...tolerate them.
A "silent stage" sure is quieter. But I still feel the need to gently remind my worship team leaders from time-to-time, we don't have a silent stage (acoustic drum set!). They get...quiet after that.
I can always hope that, at some point, I may be allowed to have a cab/monitor pointed right at me and drink in the low-end waves! I'd even setup back-stage for that!
It was nice getting to move air on Halloween for a fall fest at a friends church. Bass had no PA support. So I brought my rig and this was cranked!

Unless you are playing super loud I don't see why an amp shouldn't be "allowed." I am a sound guy as well and can easily turn down the bass in the house mix a bit. I think it's gone a little too far with the silent stage thing. Any decent sound engineer should be able to work in a variety of situations. Players should also be ready to adjust their sound if it's overpowering something else. Anyway...I've got bigger problems with mono in ear mixes.

Just for fun I'd like to make a very miniature replica of this on a mini pedal board and this is what I'm thinking:
Polytune Mini -> EHX Pico Platform -> Wampler Tumnus Mini -> MXR Thump -> Broughton HPF
Do you think that's a fairly good replica if I'm constraining myself to mini pedals? What would you swap out? I already own the Pico Platform.

I stopped by guitar center today to mess around on 5 strings. As a longtime Fender guy I'm almost embarrassed to say the Ibanez SR 5 string necks felt amazing while the fender 5's felt like a giant slab.
I just don't know if I could get used to playing something that looks like a set piece in the Star Wars cantina band.
Fender doesn't do great 5 strings. I've had a couple and play them at GC occasionally and always underwhelmed. A Lakland Skyline is much better for the less money. Though I have to say I've gotten into Dingwalls, and the NG3 is the BEST B I've ever heard. The 37" scale certainly helps, and the fanned frets don't take long to get used to, it's really only noticeable above the 12th fret, which I rarely get to go up that high.
I've played a Dingwall a couple times. They are nice. I could get used to one, but I'm so vested in my Roscoes I don't want to start over.
