Worship Bass

Hey all, I’m trying to decide on a bass to get as I’m going to be playing again on the worship team at my church. One is a 5 string bass from “Stadium” who I have never heard of. Has anyone heard of them or have anything good to say about them. And the other is a “Sterling” StingRay but is a 4 string. I’m not sure which one to get or if either are good? Anyone have any input on these 2 basses?

5 string J’s are what I see most guys playing.

If the choice was mine I’d go with the Sterling, I’ve never heard of the other brand. I would also suggest that you visit the praise band thread on the Bassist section of this forum. It’s a great bunch of people who are knowledgeable about various aspects of playing in church.

Either would work… never heard of stadium.

Do you have a preference of 4 or 5 strings? If you don’t want to worry about a battery I’d just go passive.

a budget would help… may not hurt to look for a used bass. Either precision or jazz to start…

Hi there, I am playing my new Fender American Precision Performer PJ Bass at church for the first time this weekend here in Nashville.

The church I attend plays modern worship from Bethel, The Belonging Co, Elevation, Gateway, etc.

I pulled the round wounds off right after purchase and put on LaBella Deep Tallkin' Bass Flat wounds. I love the flats, the feel and tone are amazing.

Just wanted to throw it out there for your thoughts. Flats or Round Wounds for worship this weekend?

Truthfully, as a Worship player, play what ever feels and sounds 4string Jazz basses with flats work for me, there is no actual"worship"bass model type.

This. Unless the worship leader asks for a specific bass or string count, play whatever you're comfortable playing. Me, I use a 4-string fretted Jazz and a 4-string fretless J-type bass at church, depending on my mood.

I have 2 P basses and play all of that with TI jazz flats and/or XL nickel wound rounds… ones is EADG, one is BEAD so I just pick based off the set list but both sound great with some mild overdrive and a pick!

I’ve never had any one complain

well, yes, very true. Ive been fortunate to have my two past WL have a very hands off approach to what the bass players played. Other than cues and whether to play low or up higher on the neck... (none of us were slappers, so that's a thing)
