Worst amp you played through

View attachment 833894 early 70s Kustom. The blue sparkle roll & tuck was the only good thing about it.

About 45 years ago, that was a pretty good amp. They were reliable and they blew the pants off a Fender Bassman or a Dual Showman, which a lot of touring pros were using. A couple of years later, the Acoustic 360 came out and then three years later the SVT came out

insisted on the band using their Standel amps

In the mid 60's when most bass amps were inadequate, Standel's weren't too bad, and were definitely one of the better early solid states and put out pretty well for 70 watts. I ran one for a few years and it wasn't too bad in an average garage band. It replaced my Bassman 2x12 fart generator. The Sunn 200S would kick butt on any amp in the 70-100 watt range at that time, and when the 360's and SVT's came on the scene, real bass amps had arrived.

One man's trash.....

I briefly owned and David Eden Metro combo. I could not find a single pleasing, usable tone from it. Everything sounded sterile no matter what I tried.

I briefly owned and Avatar 1-12 cab. Nothing but mud no matter what amp or bass I used.

GB Shuttle 6.0 was almost as sterile as the Eden. Combined with the Avatar 1-12 it was just awful.

Ditto on the Eden tone. Never pushed it and fried both speakers. Replaced them. Three years later the amp self destructed.

Had an Avatar 2-12. Made impressive, flatulent tones with every amp I tried. Sold it after 6 months.

Solved all of these issues with an SVT.
