Had a silver faced Bassman around the same time going through a 24" cube with a JBL D140, had to start playing with a pick to be heard. Low volume sounded great. Went to an Ampeg V4B and a Sunn 200s cab with 2/D140s, no problems. Worst amp, my first, an Sears/DanElectro 30 watt 1x15, all mids, no bottom end.

Probably the worst amp I ever played through was my first amp in 1964: I don't remember much about it other than it's blown speaker and racing stripe. It was a Harmony. More bad amps followed, as I had to save my pennies to buy my own amps.

Really? I've heard nothing but great things about them. Have been really GASing for a 500 head lately.
It's just my opinion though. I perfer a more clear, articulate sound. They are naturally boomy and dark sounding from personal experience and from what I've gathered.
Traynor "Bass Master" into an 18 inch Traynor folded horn. What a wall of mud. It was purchased for the school jazz band. I'm sure the head was fine, but I never gave it a chance with a decent speaker.
Ashdown MAG300. In 2008 we did a short run with Deicide in Italy, I only to my Tony Franklin Jazz bass, a compressor and a DI. The amp was so bad on stage that I ran DI only for the rest of the shows. Strange as I've heard some of their amps that sound good.
It is the same old chestnut, under age kid playing in a Texas BBQ road house, stops at the bar for refreshment and a pretty lady starts a conversation, jealous boyfriend comes back from toilet or pool table and makes a scene, kid apologizes and walks away, boyfriend plays a fool and pulls his pig sticker and stabs the departing kid.
Can't tell you what happened next but I only needed 2 stitches.

It also used to overheat and shut down every 30 minutes or so, even at low volumes. Once it smoked a transformer which I had to replace.

Complete Eden rig. WT800 with two 4 X 10 cabs. We owned it as a backline. It was crazy expensive. I don't think it was bad like a piece of crap (although if memory serves it did have some issues later) but I just thought it would be so great and we had everybody asking for one. So I played through it and... Really? This is what everyone raves about? What an overpriced very dull sounding rig. The expense associated with it makes it the worst to me.
See, this is exactly why I love these new "Acoustics". Guitar Center goes and soils the name by buying the logo and slapping it on cheap Chinese made budget gear, thereby undermining the brand reputation and driving down the used market prices of the real Acoustic Control Corp. amps of the 70s so that a poor working bassist such as myself can actually afford a rig that kicks ass.
