Worst amp you played through

Before I got more serious about bass because I was in a band, I owned a Yamaha JX50B for years:

It was terrible. If you turned the volume up more than 2 or 3, it crapped out and was distorted but not in a good way. I rarely used it. It became a stand for my Fender guitar amplifier.

When I knew I would be joining a band to play bass, I finally took it in to my amp repair guy for a once-over, and he could find nothing wrong with it. I thought at minimum the speaker must be blown, but nope.

I donated it to a charity yard sale, and it didn't sell. I was told that it ended up on the curb at the end of the day with a "free" sign on it.

The newer Nemesis stuff. Just such a flat, bland sound and the construction was terrible. Me and some of my co-workers were sent batches to demo when I was working at Daddy's, the higher ups wanted options on if we should carry the line. Plugged it in, tried getting a good tone out of it. After 10 minutes I boxed it back up and told the VP "No Freaking Way".

As the title says what is the worst amp or combo you have actually played through and why?

Worst head
I have a Ampeg b2r and I'm nominating it for the worst amp I've played through.
I do like its tone although nothing special its not bad at all, that's where the love ends.
As many members note the output is pathetic and especially if you use the pad switch even with a powerful active bass. I'm sure I've heard 25w amps that are louder and even with the pad switch out at 8ohms I'm sure it only just about equals 100w.
It has no right to be as heavy/big or as expensive as it was originally, especially as the build quality is so so too.
Not the worst amp but too me it's the worst I've played through and own.

Worst combo
Now far enough this was only a tiny practice amp but still I had the misfortune of owning a peavey micro bass the later foreign made ones and it sounded honestly like a glorified alarm clock and then it went with a fart and blew up! Which is a shame as in general I've think peavey stuff is alright.
My worst was the Hartke I had. It was back in the early 2000s was only a 200w solid state head. Just terrible. Really stale sounding and it didn't even have an xlr out.

Oh, man. I forgot I used to own one of these! Most horrible fart machine! Just looking at that picture reminded me how that amp smelled (I was not first owner). Yuck.

Only one I can add is a old Univox UB250 like this one was my 2nd bass amp and maybe it was just my playing at the time or I expected to much out of it? Other then that lots of amps getting tossed on the fire here, some I have owned some I have tried and others I haven't, But I have rarely come across a bass amp that I couldn't get a decent tone out of since my 1975 Ampeg SVT which is my favorite and that includes my Fender Rumble 100w 1*15 which many here claim is just mud?
This has not been my finding at all.

In over 44 years--- too many to list, but the poor sound was often due to under powered SS stuff and/or poor cabinet design.

In the old days, there was a lot of "sticking some speaker in a poorly designed box". Even my Bassman 50 (circa 1972) was bad due to the diagonally mounted 15's in a shallow box, and the 50 watts was no match for the guitarist's Marshall. Keyboard player had a Marshall and Leslie too. So I got a used 360.

My first amp :bassist:. Then I got in a band and got a Bassman 50.:bored: Then I got serious and got a 360.:hyper:

People will hate me for this but I cannot stand Orange amps and cabs. I struggle to get anything useful out of them, it's all mud and anger, my bass sounds terrible through these amps. When I see them in a rehearsal space my heart sinks, it's time for awful tone all night long. I have to stress that this is fully context-dependent because I play jazz with a p-bass with Tapewounds, so I like a thumpy dusty old school tone. I'm sure these amps are great in the right context, ie overdriven and played with a pick. But for me, no way.

Peavey TMaxx 210 combo with "matching" 15" extension cab. What a hunk of junk! Constantly, blowing speakers, burned wiring, diodes melting... too bad, my other Peavey amps (though, not the best sounding) were VERY reliable. Haven't played through a Peavey in years because of it. I hope their newer gear is better quality.

Carvin redline 1000 watt head with redline 4x10 and redline 1x18.

Total crap. The amp wasn't too bad until it failed just out of warranty. Meanwhile I have several hi-fi amps from the 70's that are still going strong...
