Worst bass for metal....

If the bass was stripped, who knows what color it started as.
The larger point is that people fixate on Geezer using a "classic" Fender P, when he hasn't used one for the majority of his recording or touring since roughly 1972.

True, but a classic Fender P is clearly not the worst choice for metal.

Ok just going to stick up for the hofner bass for once. I played one. It was actually Paul McCartneys at 1 time. But anyway, I downtuned it and ran distortion and it actually got some hint of metal. It wasn't the heaviest low end in the world but it was tight sounding enough that even hitting the open e string was satisfying. Up the neck I could get it to sound like tool or cliff Burton esque when I played it aggressively or (normal) in my case. Suprised me quite a bit. But boring sounding clean. My p bass is my go 2 downtuned honestly. It sounds better bead or drop tuned than up to standard. It gets growling better I think. So all I can say is don't knock it till you try it. Unless its an acoustic bass without a pickup. Nothing but setting fire to its going to make that seem metal. Sorry but its true. Hook up an active humbucker and you might have something but till then keep jamming to jack Johnson on an acoustic. Haha :bassist:

I think an electric upright is way worse for metal than an actual upright double bass

Well it’s kind of a acoustic 5 string bass and guitar doubleneck. Doubleneck is metal, right? 5 string is no problem for metal even if it’s actually more of a hep. I think that Sebastian Bach looks pretty cool playing it and he’s kind of a metal guy, right?

got to remove this bass from the the list. When metal bands start playing and recording mariachi, the instruments of mariachi become viable metal instruments. To add further credence, when metal bass players use the guitaron in recording, it's a metal genre instrument sorry guys and gals,

Is that happening?

I've watched guitarron players before, and I can't figure out how they don't come down with huge repetitive stress injuries. For those who don't know, standard practice is to grab two strings at a time with thumb and forefinger, pull them pretty much straight UP from the fingerboard, and let them go. Action is set high - like, to the moon, Alice. And the thing's so huge, the soundboard is darn near horizontal.

A music store I frequent has one for sale and I've toyed with the idea of throwing down the $500 or so, but I probably won't.
