Clearly Sir, you have never heard of the most awesome band, Metalachi...

Metalachi was the best show I went to last year. By far. They exceeded all expectations by about 10 miles.
So much fun. And Kyla absolutely slaying metal guitar solos on electric violin.

Tried to find some, but couldn't. This was about 15 years ago. The band was called "Assassination" out of Rhode Island. The bassist was the infamous Johnny Custom from Sasquatch And The Sickabillys.

Ha! My first thought also was the Hofner Beatle bass. Oddly enough, my son (who is also into metal, although a bit less than I am), thinks those are cool-looking and tried to talk me into getting one a few years ago. Despite my normally high opinion of my son's input, I wrote that one off rather quickly.

That is a very limited set of controls on the Hofner, which is the main reason I posted it.

What are the controls on a Hofner, anyway?

That was my first thought. The tone is wrong, the look is wrong, and the ergonomics are wrong.
I did see one band in the bay area try this. He thought it would be amusing.

The main issue for me would be that it's short scale and hard to precisely intonate.

You show up at a metal gig with this, you may not survive the evening...

Or everyone will like your band the best.

That's basically just a jazz bass.


The only one I've seen so far in this thread that I think would be pretty much unusable in a metal band was that rubber stringed ultra short scale on the first page.

Not Sunburst, didn't use flats, gave up on Fenders for touring after their 3rd album.
