Worst bass for metal?

I once played a headless Hohner B2AV. This thing had no raw tones at all, only low and thumpy. Definitely not my taste.

I totally disagree - that bass was MADE for metal - you GOTTA be doing something wrong!
You'd think so, but no. It's terrible. The J p'up is wayyyyy back at the bridge. Not a good place for it. Neck dive from hell, and it just didn't have a heavy voice no matter how it was eq'd. Looks like a beast, sounds like a little girl.
I bought it (a) because Pete Way of UFO played them, and (b) because the neck profile fit me perfectly. Mostly (a), though.
I turned it into a fretless. It sings now.
Nope. Everything is dimed (as of the last couple of albums at least). Ever get the blessed opportunity to talk to him?

im 6' 2" and a big guy so the beast might work for me, ive been eyeing them up online but havent tried one yet. as for the beast being the best for metal my wmd widow would give it a run for the money. as for the worst in my opinion for my it would be a gibson or epi eb. mid range basses turn to mudd with distortion. i agree 100% about the strap on the beast....evil \m/

Depending on the price range you get your beast and the type of sound you desire... you may want to set aside a couple hundred for a set of replacement pickups.
The pickups that come stock with the $1000 range beast are awesome, deep, heavy, and great for your average metal... but if you also slap/pluck or play technical death metal, you may want to invest in some DiMarzios or something else to also enhance the high end.. And definately go with a beast with an active setup. The electronics inside the beast provide a good tone and work great regardless of the pickups you connect to them (I've had EMGs in at one time, then Learned Better and got DiMarzios and it was a match made in Hell!) I got the standard pole type of P-Pick ups at the Neck, and the HotRod parallel Bar type at the bridge.
And yep, that strap of mine is Heavy! those spikes aren't some cheap ass Hot Topic Hollow Rounded Tip spikes but custom ordered solid steel screw back spikes.. and yes, those tips are sharp! I've actually accidentally poked/cut myself a few times when I mishandled it or worse, someone else when the idiot decides to try and walk past me or gets too close and ignores my warnings and the occasional run in (crash) with the singer on small stages...

The only interviews I've read where it was mentioned said mids all the way up, the others cut back. I don't know how old they were though.
dude from bad religion plays one. not metal, but its not so far down the spectrum
i also watched a local hardcore band play with an epi rumblecat. of course it sounded horrible, the player was bad, and the rig crackled the entire time, but it was played.

wmd widow always remind me of those glam metal bands... or those metal bands with people from the trailer parks of the deep south... or slipknot and marilyn mansion..
Does not go with "real" Metal At All! but the beast goes great with death metal, black metal, thrash, core, and everything inbetween! it would even look great if the bassist from a band like Weezer or Sublime used it.. It's an extreme bass that can cross all boundaries. Of course this won't happen
Also one last entry in this Worse Bass for metal...
In a band I was in long ago, a crap numetal band.. so not really metal. the guitarist and I planned to purchase a set of Daisy Rock instruments to use at a live gig for Laughs, but also planned to load it with EMGs... anyways, I never purchased the bass but he actually got the guitar... and he purchased a set of EMG humbuckers, and an active board, and he installed them.. of course after the use of a Dremmel tool to route the crap out of it and the active board sticking out in the back...
Anyways, he ended up using it when we played at the Wiskey-A-Go-Go in Hollywood, and as we planned, as soon as he took it out of the case, you can hear people laughing or giggling from every corner of the venue... especially the fact that it was so tiny against him.. he's 6'-2" and it's sized for small girls)! but as soon as we were ready and he played the first chord on the first song, everyone's expression went from laughter, to shock, to amazement, then finally back to laughter! That sh*t was HEAVY AS F*CK!
It was a fun time!

and if I actually saved the money at the time and got a Daisy Rock Bass, this was the one I planned to purchase and RAPE WITH EMG!:
So if your in a metal band and are playing an April Fools show or just want to have fun.. I highly recommend going with Daisy Rock and invest in some EMG Pickups.. Trick the crowd into thinking you are Pu*sy fa*gots, but watch the look of their faces when so much distortion, power, and bass erupt from these instruments!

They can get a really bright tone, actually. Wouldn't be my first choice, but it could work.
Yeah, still really loud, heavy rock music.
I can imagine one would work well in some bands.

that could probably also be used by a bunch of guys that want to be ironic, basically what sorrowdemonica said, except put "felix the cat" instead of "daisy rock". Same concept.
